Arrest of 6 barges carrying nearly 2,700 cubic meters of illegal sand on Tien River

On January 17, news from the Traffic Police Department ( Ministry of Public Security ) said that the unit had handed over 6 barges and 2,678 m3 of sea sand for leveling without invoices or documents proving legal origin to the Economic Police Department of Tien Giang Provincial Police for investigation and handling according to regulations. This amount of smuggled sand was discovered and seized by the Traffic Police Department in coordination with the Traffic Police Department of Tien Giang Provincial Police on the Tien River.

Illegal sea sand was caught on 6 barges

Accordingly, at around 3 a.m. on January 14, a working group consisting of the Traffic Police Department, the Traffic Police Department and the Economic Police Department of Tien Giang Provincial Police patrolled and discovered 8 barges anchored on the Tien River (near Cua Tieu area, in Phuoc Trung commune, Go Cong Dong district, Tien Giang) with signs of suspected illegal sand trading and transportation.

Through working with the crew members, the authorities determined that 6/8 barges (license plates VL-6499, BTr-8155, TG-12579, BTr-8288, LA-07886, BTr-8409) were transporting about 2,678 m3 of sea sand for landfill but had no invoices or documents proving their legal origin.

This amount of sand was purchased from other means (information unknown) on Tien River, in Phuoc Trung Commune, Go Cong Dong District, Tien Giang to be transported to fill in some construction works in the Southern region.

The working group of the Traffic Police Department has handed over the case file, means of transport and the above-mentioned amount of smuggled sand to the Economic Police Department of Tien Giang Provincial Police to continue investigating and handling according to the provisions of law.
