On October 15, Thu Duc Regional General Hospital (HCMC) was honored to be recognized by the World Stroke Organization (WSO) with a diamond certification, the highest level in stroke treatment.
Dr. Cao Tan Phuoc - Director of Thu Duc Regional General Hospital - said that to achieve diamond certification, the hospital needs to fully meet strict criteria on treatment effectiveness and service quality.
The number of stroke patients per quarter is over 210 cases; over 75% of stroke patients are treated within 60 minutes of admission and the rate of patients receiving revascularization intervention is 25% or more...
This result was achieved thanks to the close coordination between the team of experienced doctors - nurses - technicians, along with a system of modern equipment such as 128-slice CT Scan, MRI, DSA... all creating a "fast reaction chain" to help stroke patients regain their lives every second.
Associate Professor Nguyen Huy Thang - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Stroke Association - said that currently, in the city, the number of hospitals that can provide advanced techniques in stroke treatment such as revascularization and cerebral vascular intervention is still too small compared to actual needs.
A good stroke center is one where treatment decisions for patients are always based on class 1A medical evidence – the highest, most reliable level.
Associate Professor Thang highly appreciated the steady development of the stroke unit of Thu Duc Regional General Hospital which has grown from the initial foundation, not building an image with beautiful numbers or superficial achievements, but through a process of real efforts.
This is one of the rare district hospitals to achieve a diamond certificate in stroke treatment.
"I personally feel very happy when treating a patient who was hospitalized in a paralyzed state but was able to recover almost normally. We do not need envelopes or gifts from the patient, the most precious thing is to see them return to life," said Dr. Thang.
Doctor Vu Van Thoai - Deputy Head and Head of the Department of Neurology, Thu Duc Regional General Hospital - said that the hospital's stroke unit and neurology department were established in 2020.
Up to now, it has become a complete stroke treatment unit, implementing both intravenous thrombolysis and instrumental thrombectomy - serving an average of 600-700 stroke cases/year. The unit has achieved 4 gold certifications, 6 platinum certifications consecutively from the fourth quarter of 2022 to the first quarter of 2025. By the second quarter of 2025, it will officially receive a diamond certification.
Doctor Thoai said that in the coming time, the hospital will continue to maintain the diamond standard, expand and strengthen links with medical facilities in the Northeast area of Ho Chi Minh City , create a "Code Stroke" network, an emergency stroke coordination system, helping to identify and quickly transfer acute stroke cases to the hospital...
Thus, in Ho Chi Minh City, hospitals that have achieved diamond certification in stroke treatment by the end of the second quarter of 2025 include: Thu Duc Regional General Hospital, People's Hospital 115, Nguyen Tri Phuong, People's Hospital Gia Dinh, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Military Hospital 175, Gia An 115, Thong Nhat.
