After more than 3 months of lighting up the dragon fruit garden to create the shape of the national flag, La Pitaya Valley resort posted photos and videos of the results on social media, attracting nearly 600,000 views and hundreds of comments. Most of the online community and tourists were excited about the resort's idea and "invited each other" to check in at the dragon fruit garden.

"Patriotism should be spread in creative ways," said Hoai Thu, who lives in Hanoi .

Resort manager Nguyen Huu Cong said he was "surprised" that the idea of ​​hanging flag-shaped lights received positive feedback from everyone. After nearly a week of posting the flag image, the number of guests booking rooms at the resort increased dramatically. Most of the guests booked rooms from the second day of Tet (January 30). Currently, the number of guests booked during the Tet holiday reached about 50% capacity, with guests mainly coming from Hanoi. From the fourth day (February 1), the group of guests booked in advance were mostly Western guests, reaching about 30% capacity.

According to Mr. Cong, the idea of ​​creating the national flag comes from the desire to bring agricultural experiences closer to tourists. The implementation of the idea will start from November 2024 with the goal of completing the 8,800 m2 flag.

"The process of making this flag breaks the traditional way of agricultural cultivation," said Mr. Cong.

Normally, dragon fruit gardens are lit by using soft copper core wires, using household electricity. The wires are wrapped around steel wires, which is not very safe and is likely to cause electric leakage. This method is also not aesthetically pleasing because it looks like a tangled spider web, "no one dares to enter at night except the garden owner".

To ensure safety and aesthetics, the resort uses outdoor cables for lighting. Each row of dragon fruit is equipped with additional anti-electric leakage voltage.

After solving the safety problem, the team proceeded to balance the ratio of the flag and the star.

"The alignment was difficult because of the large area, we had to use a flycam, send someone to climb the electric pole, and adjust it little by little for half a month," said Mr. Cong, adding that the final problem was solving the lighting problem.

To prevent the yellow star from mixing with the red flag, the team had to add a separate border of lights, 50 cm apart. The remaining colors were spaced 2.5 m apart.

The resort representative said that on the first day the flag was lit, people around were excited to check in at the garden at night. For now, the resort will keep the shape of the flag. In the following months, they will hang lights according to the theme. The total area of ​​the dragon fruit garden is 1.5 hectares, the area for the flag shape takes up more than half.

In the North, dragon fruit bears fruit from May to October. Gardeners use electricity to have off-season dragon fruit from November to March. Currently, dragon fruit has difficulty blooming buds and fruiting because of the large difference in day and night temperatures and heavy frost at night.

Mr. Cong said that the resort's operations are based on agricultural products. The entire resort has 35 hectares of fruit trees, next to the national pine forest, surrounded by the Lizard Mountain range, providing visitors with a close-to-nature experience. The fruit gardens in the resort are open to visitors free of charge.

"The idea of ​​the resort is to create beautiful landscapes, not only as a place to check in and create new experiences but also to spread patriotism," commented Mr. Ngoc Nam, a tourist from Hanoi.
