At the meeting, Mr. Akash Palkhiwala reported on the results of some of Qualcomm's cooperation activities in Vietnam in recent times to realize its commitment to accompany the Ministry of Science and Technology in elevating Vietnamese technology products to the global market.
Permanent Deputy Minister Vu Hai Quan received and worked with Mr. Akash Palkhiwala, General Director of Qualcomm Group (USA).
Accordingly, Qualcomm officially launched the Design Excellence Center in collaboration with VNPT , and introduced the first technology products using Qualcomm's chips and artificial intelligence (AI) platform. The Group also implemented a 6G research project with Viettel , aiming to commercialize products and services by 2028; cooperated with VinMotion to develop humanoid robots, expected to launch on the global market in early 2026.
Mr. Akash Palkhiwala also said, Qualcomm is promoting AI infrastructure projects in Vietnam through cooperation with CMC, FPT, Viettel and VNPT; coordinating with FPT to develop Agentic AI solutions for the global automotive sector; and implementing a scientific research support program for four major universities in Vietnam.
The group is currently expanding its research and development (R&D) activities in Vietnam, especially in the fields of semiconductor chips, big data and AI at the edge. Qualcomm is also cooperating with Viettel and FPT to develop chips for data centers and expand its supply capacity to the international market.
In the field of smart cars, Qualcomm, FPT and VinFast are researching the integration of AI Agentic into the cockpit, aiming to improve user experience and promote Vietnam's technological capacity on the world map.
Qualcomm's CEO congratulated Vietnam on its efforts in developing the Law on Artificial Intelligence (AI), saying that this is a pioneering step in the region, creating a favorable legal corridor for innovation. He also expressed his hope to receive support from the Ministry of Science and Technology in expanding Qualcomm's operations in Vietnam and strengthening cooperation with domestic technology enterprises.
Permanent Deputy Minister Vu Hai Quan affirmed that science, technology and innovation are the only way to help Vietnam develop quickly and sustainably, as directed by General Secretary To Lam.
The Deputy Minister said that the Ministry of Science and Technology is implementing many key tasks, including the development and amendment of five draft laws, including the Law on Artificial Intelligence and the Law on High Technology (amended) to attract investment and help Vietnam access and master strategic technologies.
Currently, the Ministry of Science and Technology focuses on training high-quality human resources, investing in large-scale laboratories, and gradually participating in the global production value chain, especially in chip design and AI development at the edge - areas that account for a large proportion of the value of technology products.
The Deputy Minister expressed his hope that Qualcomm will continue to expand cooperation with Vietnamese enterprises, research institutes and universities, contributing to making Vietnam an attractive destination in the global supply chain and innovation.
The working session between the Ministry of Science and Technology and Qualcomm affirmed the determination of both sides in promoting strategic cooperation in high technology, AI, semiconductors and digital infrastructure, towards the goal of making Vietnam a dynamic innovation center of the region.
Expanding R&D activities, developing high-quality human resources and transferring technology from leading corporations such as Qualcomm is expected to create a new breakthrough for Vietnam's technology ecosystem, contributing to improving national competitiveness and actively contributing to the digital transformation process and sustainable development of the country.
