On the morning of June 7, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat "sat the hot seat" to answer questions from National Assembly deputies. This was the first time the Minister had appeared on stage.
Evaluating the Minister's response to questions in the National Assembly corridor, delegate Nguyen Quang Huan ( Binh Duong delegation) said that the response of the Minister of Science and Technology was very receptive. Science and technology issues attracted the attention of many delegates.
According to the delegates, the delegates asked very direct and difficult questions, not only of strategic importance but also raised the issue of how to effectively carry out current scientific research work.
“Currently, Vietnam's scientific research is not good and there are many problems, not just due to one ministry, Science and Technology. However, when answering, all the pressure is on the Minister's shoulders, so there needs to be sympathy. Of course, there are hot issues that voters and National Assembly deputies are concerned about today, such as the issue of funds and capital, but they are scattered and fragmented without a strategy, which needs to be changed," said delegate Nguyen Quang Huan.
According to the delegate, we have established a Science and Technology Development Fund to attract the private sector, but currently there is no private sector participation.

Until now, the Fund has mainly relied on the State budget, and there has been no private participation in the investment fund and scientific research to apply to production practice. This is also an obstacle to labor productivity, because many people believe that if labor productivity is not developed, and labor productivity is not applied to production and occupations, it will be difficult to increase labor productivity.
“Without increasing labor productivity, it will be difficult for us to escape the middle-income trap. This is a vicious cycle, so it is a hot topic that voters are interested in, but solving and removing it is not the sole responsibility of the Ministry of Science and Technology,” the delegate stated.
The delegates also assessed that the response of the Minister of Science and Technology was very receptive. The Minister answered directly to the issues, and there were issues for which the Minister should request the National Assembly delegates to relax the preparation time.
Because it is not necessary to answer every question immediately, because there are difficult questions related to data or beyond the scope of the Ministry, they can be answered in writing.
Evaluating the National Assembly Chairman's management, the delegate said that the National Assembly Chairman managed very closely. During the questioning session of the Ministers, the National Assembly Chairman always listened and recorded the delegates' questions very accurately. For questions that were not answered or were not answered correctly by the Minister, the management was given so that the Minister could answer the key points of the issues raised by the delegates.
The National Assembly Chairman even took the initiative to give the Minister more time to answer important issues raised by delegates. The National Assembly Chairman closely controlled and grasped the key issues as well as the timeliness raised by voters and delegates.
"I think this supervision is very good. The questioning is not just asking questions, making it difficult for the Minister to answer. The issue is for the Industry Commander to review what has been done and what has not been done to create a strategy for the coming time," the delegate emphasized.
Also discussing on the sidelines of the National Assembly, National Assembly deputies expressed their hope that Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat would frankly acknowledge the issue and objectively assess the current state of research and application of science and technology in Vietnam. From there, they would propose solutions to remove obstacles for the development of this field in the coming time.
Discussing further on the National Assembly side, delegate Ly Anh Thu (Kien Giang delegation) said that the questioning part of the Minister of Science and Technology was clear and the delegates asked specific general questions from the local difficulties.
The Minister has proposed solutions, from which ministries and branches can see their responsibilities more clearly; on that basis, localities can implement and develop better in various fields.
In particular, during the National Assembly Chairman's question-and-answer session, the questions raised by the delegates were fully answered. Through the Minister's answers to questions about investment policies for science and technology, it is hoped that in the coming time, the fields of science and technology will be put into practice and further developed for socio-economic development .
