Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Quoc Cuong - Director of the Can Tho City Department of Health - emotionally said that the city's health sector had reached a "spectacular" finish line when 61 health facilities completed electronic medical records and connected to the national health shared database.
This achievement not only has great significance for the medical industry but also helps patients save travel time, reduce costs for repeated imaging, and conveniently access services and look up information throughout the treatment process.
"To have today's ceremony to announce the completion of electronic medical records requires great determination and effort from all leaders and staff of the entire Can Tho health sector," said Mr. Cuong.
Up to now, although the electronic medical records have been announced, medical facilities still have both paper and electronic medical records in parallel, and health insurance agencies still pay based on paper medical records and printed X-ray and CT films. The Can Tho health sector is proposing to move towards complete interconnection of health insurance payments on electronic medical records, including imaging via His, Lis, Ris, and Pacs software from December 31.
During this time, the Can Tho City Department of Health requires digital transformation, hospitals are not allowed to require patients to use paper medical records; all medical examination registration is done via VNeID.

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep - Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee - affirmed that the achievement of 61 medical facilities completing electronic medical records is a great effort of the entire city's health sector. Electronic medical records aim at the goal of "paperless healthcare", contributing to improving the quality of medical examination and treatment, increasing transparency, reducing administrative procedures and saving costs for people.
Along with that, this system also effectively supports management and operation, facilitates data sharing with national systems, thereby better serving patients and improving the quality of diagnosis and treatment.
"In the coming time, to maintain the effectiveness of electronic medical records and digital transformation, the health sector needs to improve the level of information technology application for medical staff, doctors, and medical staff in hospitals," Ms. Diep directed.
