Difficult circumstances need help

In a dilapidated charity house in Duong Kien hamlet, Hoa Tu commune, Can Tho city, Mr. Nguyen Van Giau (70 years old) is struggling with illness and pain every day.

Mr. Giau has many illnesses.

Being old and in poor health, Mr. Giau suffered from many diseases: spinal degeneration, gastroesophageal reflux and kidney stones. He had to go in and out of the hospital many times, and the cost of medicine was partly covered by insurance; however, he had many diseases and needed to be transferred to a higher level, but the cost of transportation and food during the treatment process was beyond his means. Not only that, he also had a wound on his side from a bullet left over from the war, and there were no conditions for surgery. Every time the weather changed, the wound ached and twitched, making his health even more exhausted.

The house he lives in is a charity house built with the support of the State many years ago. It is now in disrepair, the ceiling is rotten, and must be patched up with fabric and rubber to protect it from the sun and rain. Mr. Giau has lost his ability to work, his children are poor, and they live far away so he cannot help much. He lives alone in the dilapidated house, relying on the help of relatives and neighbors.

Mr. Pham Van Trieu, Secretary of the Party Cell of Duong Kien Hamlet, said: “Mr. Giau is old, constantly sick, and his house is in disrepair, but he does not qualify as a poor household because his children are all of working age. Therefore, he does not receive any subsidies. We hope that philanthropists and local authorities will help him so that he can have the conditions to treat his illness and improve his life.”
