Be careful of the trick of installing fake apps that take control of your phone to transfer money.

Online fraud has increased recently with forms such as impersonating public service apps to take control of phones, stealing OTP to transfer money. Reporter of Tin Tuc and Dan Toc newspaper had an interview with cyber security expert Ngo Minh Hieu (Hieu PC), founder of the Anti-Fraud project around the above topic.

Sir, can you tell us the main forms of fraud that are being applied according to the survey from the Anti-Fraud project?

Currently, many sophisticated forms of fraud appear, the most common of which are fake financial investments and installing fake applications (apps) of public services such as VNeID, VssID, tax and electricity industry apps... to take control of devices. This form accounts for about 30% of fraud cases related to banking and finance.

Once they gain control of the device, the subject can make large money transfers.

In addition, card information theft is also common. Victims only need to provide a one-time OTP code, the subject can withdraw money via banking applications from abroad.

Therefore, users need to always be alert, slow down a moment to carefully check the information, and accurately identify the bank or financial institution before making a transaction.

Personal data protection is of concern to the State management agencies and many people. Do you have any advice for users on the Internet to protect personal information to avoid being exploited and scammed, sir?

Cybercriminals often buy user data, then screen bank statements with large balances and transactions to target and build fraudulent scenarios, then lure them into downloading malware or participating in fake "financial investments".

The source of information is often the victim himself who shares too much personal information on social networks, unintentionally providing data about schedules, phone numbers, emails... This creates conditions for bad guys to track and retrieve detailed personal information such as citizen identification, address, workplace... to create a scam scenario.

Therefore, users should limit sharing personal information, verify information through authorities, network operators, banks or check that website through chongluadao.vn of the "Anti-fraud" project to determine whether the website has signs of fraud or not.

Nowadays, user information is easily sold online. So, is there any technology to protect assets in the digital space, sir?

There are many solutions such as data encryption, cyber security intelligence to monitor, detect early risks of information leakage, promptly warn and guide customers to change passwords, change security methods. New technologies such as biometric authentication help increase safety.

Users need to set strong passwords and avoid accessing fake links or apps containing malicious code, because most of the risks come from user error.

Businesses and organizations also need to raise awareness among customers and staff, and monitor cyber attack trends worldwide , as many international scam scenarios are copied by scammers and transferred to the Southeast Asian region.

According to you, what should businesses do to prevent cyber attacks?

To prevent cyber attacks, units need to back up data according to the 3-2-1 principle, the server is separate from the internet to ensure the most recent backup. Including: 3 copies of data (1 original + 2 backups); 2 different types of storage devices and 1 backup located in another location.

In addition, businesses should regularly participate in real-life cyber security drills so that officers and employees can clearly understand real-life situations and proactively defend against attacks.

In addition, it is necessary to test the system's network security by simulating attacks to assess tolerance, identify vulnerabilities and promptly fix them.

Thank you!
