Canadian Open 2025: Coco Gauff struggles to beat Danielle Collins

Gauff played sluggishly—and erratically. She made 23 double faults and 74 unforced errors. “Maybe if I cut my negatives in half, the match would go faster for me,” she continued.

“At the end of the day, I still had a lot of energy left. I think I played well overall, except for the unforced errors,” Gauff said after the match, which lasted 2 hours and 55 minutes.

“Danielle Collin is a very good player. Obviously, the fact that I broke her serve so much was a positive thing,” Gauff said after saving nine break points against Collins.

With this result, Gauff entered the third round of the tournament also known as the WTA National Bank Open and her next opponent will be Verokina Kudermetova (Russia, ranked 42nd WTA), who defeated Olga Danilovic (Serbia, ranked 40th WTA) 6-4, 6-2 in another second round match.

Gauff is only 21 years old. The Atlanta native is expected to follow in the footsteps of Serena Williams, the legendary American professional tennis player. Gauff is looking for her 11th career title - and she really wants to do it in Canada.
