MSC KALINA is a Panamanian vessel with impressive parameters: Overall length 366.06 m, draft when docking 12.2 m, total tonnage 162,867 DWT. This is a large amount of work, requiring synchronous coordination between operating forces, equipment and port infrastructure.
The fact that MSC – one of the world’s leading container shipping lines – brings a large mothership like MSC KALINA to HTIT shows its confidence in the port’s infrastructure and operating capacity. From the depth of the shipping channel, wharf, container yard, to the equipment system and human resources, all meet the highest technical requirements, ready for international shipping routes.
The event is of great significance both technically and economically . In terms of expertise, HTIT has demonstrated its ability to safely receive and operate large mother ships, meeting international standards in wharf arrangement, towing, container handling and ensuring maritime safety. In terms of economics and trade, the ship carrying thousands of TEUs not only increases the volume of goods passing through the port, creating a large source of revenue for loading, unloading, storage and transportation services, but also promotes the regional logistics ecosystem, from transportation, warehousing, customs services to shipping agents.
Welcoming MSC KALINA also reflects the results of long-term efforts of HTIT and Hai Phong Port system in investing, upgrading infrastructure, modernizing equipment, and applying advanced management technology. This is a strategic step to help Lach Huyen port cluster improve its competitiveness, attract more main shipping routes; contribute to reducing transit costs and shortening the circulation time of goods for import and export customers in the Northern region.
MSC KALINA's port call is therefore considered an important milestone, affirming the capacity to receive mother ships and the international position of HTIT Port. In the coming time, HTIT will continue to focus on investing in infrastructure, training high-quality human resources, perfecting the exploitation process to maintain efficiency, safety and smoothness for large-sized ships, contributing to the sustainable development of the Hai Phong seaport system in particular and Vietnam's import-export trade in general.
