Every year from February to August is the clam harvest season, traders hire workers to harvest clams according to the tide. When the sun sets, the tide recedes. Workers prepare their personal belongings to go to the beach: hand rakes, raincoats, headlamps, drinking water... are indispensable on their person, the group of workers has set off 5km to the clam hut. When the sea water recedes, it is also midnight, workers start harvesting, some rake, some collect, some wash, some classify, some pack, each person does their own job. After 4am, the tide rises, everyone brings clams onto the boat for traders. Finishing the work, they quickly leave before dawn.

Clam raking is also considered a traditional profession of coastal fishermen that has been preserved for many generations. Clam raking brings a stable income, so many women in coastal areas participate in this job every day. Just like that, the daily life of the people here seems to blend with the sound of the waves of the ocean. Tomorrow, when the tide recedes, a new life at the estuary begins again.

The photo and video contest “Happy Vietnam – Happy Vietnam”, organized by the Department of External Information, Ministry of Information and Communications on the website https://happy.vietnam.vn for all Vietnamese citizens and foreigners aged 15 and over. The contest aims to honor individuals and groups with positive information products, making practical contributions to the propaganda and promotion of beautiful images of Vietnam to the world.
