Vietnamese blue beret couple come to Abyei to contribute youth

TPO - Along with more than 180 teammates from the 3rd Engineer Team on their way to perform a United Nations peacekeeping mission at the UNISFA Mission in the Abyei region, Captain Hoang Huu Cong Thanh and his wife had an international mission on the occasion of their first wedding anniversary.

Among the 184 blue beret soldiers of the 3rd Engineer Team who went on this mission, Captain Hoang Huu Cong Thanh (born in 1994) and professional soldier Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Thi Nguyet Ha (born in 1996) are the first married couple to carry out the mission together in the formation of a Vietnamese Engineer Team in Africa. Captain Hoang Huu Cong Thanh and his wife shared their determination to perform well the UN peacekeeping mission at the UNISF Mission. Before leaving for the army, the couple shared that they were both from Hai Duong and worked at the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department. In September 2023, the two became husband and wife. Captain Thanh had served a term (2022-2023) as a Military Observer at the UNMISS Mission in South Sudan, while Senior Lieutenant Ha participated in this special mission for the first time. “I joined the Army 6 years ago, half the time my husband served. In Abyei, I will take on the role of Administrative - Financial Officer, while my husband will be the Civilian-Military Coordinator of the 3rd Engineering Team. In addition to the necessary knowledge and skills from pre-deployment training sessions, my husband also 'supplemented' me with practical experience because he had participated in a UN peacekeeping mission in the field, especially knowledge of survival in difficult circumstances,” Senior Lieutenant Ha confided.

Continuing his wife's words, Captain Thanh said that the couple's plan to go to Abyei together was fully supported and encouraged by both families. Captain Thanh said: "To be able to go on an international mission together on the occasion of our first wedding anniversary is a great honor and pride. We consider this a valuable experience and an opportunity to contribute our youth to the country and the international community. After completing the mission and returning home, my wife and I will have children to build a happier family."
