Parents do not mind "standing in the sun" waiting for their children

On June 6, nearly 99,000 candidates in Ho Chi Minh City entered the fierce "race" of the public high school grade 10 exam. Thousands of parents also put aside all work to take their children to the exam and patiently waited for them in the hot weather.

This morning, June 6, the candidates completed the first exam, Literature, with a duration of 120 minutes. The topic of the exam was "The heartbeat is not just for oneself". The exam consisted of 3 parts: Reading comprehension (3 points), Social argumentation (3 points) and Literary argumentation (4 points).

Most candidates commented that the exam was moderate and approachable. Candidate Nguyen Minh Dang, at Truong Tho Secondary School (Truong Tho, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) shared: "I did quite well on the test, I feel confident with my writing. The exam was within our ability. The Reading Comprehension section was about the Central Youth Union's "Youth for the Sea and Islands of the Homeland" program, and understanding the soldiers in the Truong Sa archipelago. In the Literature Essay section, I chose the topic about the feelings of the character Thu for her father in the work "Ivory Comb" by writer Nguyen Quang Sang and related it to life or another work to see the meaning of family affection for each person. In addition, there was an additional option for candidates to write about the deep feelings that poetry evoked in them. For the Social Essay question, I wrote a paragraph on the topic of knowing how to think with the heart."

Candidate Thao Nhi at Truong Tho Secondary School (Truong Tho, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) said: "I like the essay writing about "thinking with the heart" the most. I find this question easy to develop, depending on each person's opinion, they can give appropriate opinions. I think I did about 70% of the test."

Teacher Vo Kim Bao, Nguyen Du Secondary School, District 1, commented: "The test questions are close to the candidates, not confusing but still have a certain differentiation. Candidates are familiar with the way of making questions and the structure of the questions from the previous school year's test, so they have positive feedback when doing the test. With the topic "Heartbeat is not just for me", candidates have many opportunities to express their knowledge, thoughts and feelings because this is a topic close and practical to them."

After a stressful exam, candidates leave the exam room and are welcomed by their relatives with a warm hug, a cool bottle of water, and questions. In the 4.0 technology era, parents also have the additional action of filming and taking pictures to capture memorable moments of their children.

Ms. Phan Thu (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) said: "My house is about 4km from my child's test site, but I still wait for him to pick me up. The test is at 2pm in the afternoon, but I have to be at the test site by 12:30pm. Therefore, I take the time to wait for my child to come out and ask if the questions are easy or difficult, how he did the test, take a photo of him when we leave, then take him home to eat, rest a bit, and then go back."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Hang (68 years old, Truong Tho ward, Thu Duc, HCMC) stood in the hot sun waiting for her grandchild to take the 10th grade entrance exam.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Hang (68 years old, Truong Tho ward, Thu Duc, HCMC) said: "My house is nearby, in the morning I took my grandchild to the exam school and then I came back. But after coming back I felt nauseous. My grandchild just finished the exam at 10 o'clock but at 9 o'clock I ran to the school to wait. I can't stand the hot weather, but I just have to wait. My grandchild taking the exam at school is much harder than me."

During the 10th grade entrance exam, Ho Chi Minh City arranged testing locations that were convenient for candidates to travel to, however, some parents were still not at ease, waiting in front of the gate for their children or arriving very early to pick them up.

It can be seen that at every important milestone in a student's life, parents always cherish and accompany their children. Parents are a solid "rear" for their children to feel secure in studying and taking exams. Before the exam, parents take them to extra classes and review. During the exam, parents worry about food, nutrition and wait. They also do the work of encouraging, comforting and rewarding. Parents also have many other jobs in the name of "loving their children".
