Luc Nam High School: Six decades of rising and affirming its position

Established in 1965, after 60 years of construction and development, Luc Nam High School ( Bac Ninh province) has created a proud journey with many achievements in teaching and learning. This is also the foundation for the school to continue to affirm its position in the new period.

Growing up from hardship

In July 1965, at the request of the leaders of Luc Nam district and the decision of the Ha Bac Provincial Administrative Committee, Bao Dai High School was established, initially merged with the secondary school to form Bao Dai Secondary-High School. In the 1966-1967 school year, the school separated and was named Luc Nam High School - the predecessor of today's Luc Nam High School. In the first years of its establishment, teachers and students had to build bamboo classrooms, study in A-shaped bunkers, wear straw hats, eat rice mixed with cassava and walk dozens of kilometers to class. Amidst the bombs and bullets of war, the passion for learning and the desire to conquer knowledge seemed never to fade, fostering the tradition of studiousness of a school in a simple countryside.

In 1971, the school moved to its current location but less than a year later was forced to evacuate due to fierce bombing by the US imperialists. After the Paris Agreement in 1973, the school was rebuilt under the motto “The State and the People Work Together”, with the contribution of thousands of working days from parents.

By the 1980s and 1990s, despite many difficulties, the school had a two-story building with 10 classrooms, organizing about 20 classes per year. When the country entered the renovation period, the facilities became more and more spacious, the teaching staff increased from more than 10 to more than 100 people, of which more than 20% had qualifications above standard. If in 1965 there were only 2 classes with more than 80 students, then by the 2015-2016 school year, the school had 42 classes with nearly 1,800 students; in the 2005-2006 school year alone, there was a record of 55 classes with nearly 3,000 students, becoming one of the largest schools in the province and the country.

During the journey of building and developing, thousands of former students of Luc Nam High School have grown up and asserted themselves in many fields. Typical examples are Prof. Dr. Nguyen Truong Son - a leading scientist in marine medicine; Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Bich Tho - a female intellectual devoted to legal education ; Associate Professor Dr. Duong Van Sao - a prestigious researcher in the field of labor - trade unions; Senior Lieutenant General Ngo Minh Tien - former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; Lieutenant General Tran Van Nhuan - a person holding important positions in the People's Public Security Force. They are living proof of the tradition of studiousness and the will to excel of generations of Luc Nam students.

Over the past six decades, Luc Nam High School has continuously affirmed its position with outstanding achievements. The school was honored to receive the Third Class Labor Medal (2005), Second Class (2014); received the emulation flag and many certificates of merit from the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Central Youth Union and the People's Committee of Bac Giang province. Hundreds of teachers were recognized as emulation fighters, including many excellent teachers, becoming exemplary models for students to follow.

Today, the beloved school is the common home of 407 dedicated staff and teachers, who are tirelessly working day in and day out to sow letters, impart knowledge, and nurture big dreams for generations of students.

In the past ten years (2015 - 2025), the school has made a strong breakthrough. Key education continues to be affirmed: 260 students are excellent at the provincial level in cultural subjects; 170 sports awards (2018 - 2025); many students won national prizes in Casio Math, Chemistry, IOE English competitions. Notably, in the 2024 - 2025 school year, the school won 35 cultural awards, ranked second in the province, along with 23 sports awards to maintain the overall championship position. Luc Nam students also affirmed their capacity in the field of science and technology when participating in the provincial Robocon and won third prize.

Notably, many generations of Luc Nam High School students have made outstanding marks in national exams. In the 2020-2021 school year, Than Trong An became the valedictorian of the A1 block nationwide with 29.55 points. In the 2024-2025 school year, Nguyen Van Tung scored 29.5 points, ranked third nationwide in the A00 block, and was also a rare student to achieve two perfect scores of 10. These achievements have contributed to affirming Luc Nam's educational brand in Bac Giang province in particular and the whole country in general.

Looking back at the 60-year journey that Luc Nam High School has gone through, teacher Nguyen Van Nhat - the school's principal could not hide his pride: "The achievements that the school has achieved today are the crystallization of the persistent efforts of many generations of teachers and students. It is not only a source of pride but also a driving force for us to continue to innovate, improve the quality of comprehensive education, and build a modern, friendly and humane learning environment."

Teacher Nguyen Van Nhat affirmed: Entering the new phase, Luc Nam High School will persistently innovate management in the direction of science, democracy, and transparency; improve the expertise of the staff; focus on developing comprehensive capacity for students; focus on nurturing excellent students, and at the same time support those in difficult circumstances. The school also focuses on closely connecting with parents, alumni and the community so that the strength of the school lies not only in the walls or classrooms but also in the affection, trust and support of the community.

The collective of management staff and teachers of Luc Nam High School look forward to celebrating the school's 60th anniversary.

With a solid foundation built over 60 years, along with the support of the government, parents and generations of former students, it is hoped that in the new journey, Luc Nam High School will continue to reap many more achievements, becoming a trusted address in training high-quality human resources for Bac Giang province and the whole country.

Affirming that orientation, Principal Nguyen Van Nhat emphasized: “We hope that each student leaving this school will not only be good at knowledge but also have a strong character, benevolent, adaptable and creative in a changing world. That is the goal and aspiration that teachers and students of Luc Nam High School always pursue.”
