TPO - Always on time to cook for patients, young man Tran Van Toan (27 years old, Son Tra district, Da Nang city) has become a familiar face with the kitchens and patients being treated at hospitals in Da Nang city.

Always present early at the Da Nang Oncology Hospital, young man Tran Van Toan is the one who directly prepares the ingredients and cooks quality meals, delivering them to the patients on time.

Since he was very young, Toan has always been willing to devote himself to cooking in the hospital kitchen. “At the age of 17, I participated in charity work, distributing meals to people in difficult circumstances and patients being treated at hospitals in Da Nang city. In addition, I was also hospitalized so I saw the difficulty of eating when sick, so when I had the opportunity, I wanted to do something to help the patients and their families,” Toan shared.

In July 2023, by chance, Toan personally made the Hue-style sandwiches that he sells to give to patients at the hospital. Witnessing the hardships of patients and their families when they often eat the same dish, the 1997-born man boldly took on the task of cooking delicious meals, changing every day such as pho, rice, vermicelli, etc. to bring joy and comfort to help patients and their families overcome their treatment.

The meals Toan cooks are carefully prepared from the ingredients to the cooking process. The ingredients must be fresh, have a license to ensure food safety and hygiene, and have a clear origin. When cooking, he is always attentive and enthusiastic to bring delicious meals to the patients.

Here, meals are often cooked in large quantities, from 600 - 700 servings/meal.

Toan always receives enthusiastic support and help from donors, philanthropists, kitchen staff and patients' families.

Having a relative being treated at the Da Nang Oncology Hospital, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam (32 years old, from Gia Lai ) was grateful for the meals. “It is very far from Gia Lai to here, the travel is expensive, and the treatment costs are also high. With the guaranteed meal support, I am very grateful to the hospital, the benefactors as well as the cooks for helping people in difficult circumstances like us have more motivation to overcome the treatment periods,” said Mr. Nam.

The meals that Toan personally cooks and delivers to patients and their families are appreciated by everyone.

Toan's call "Does anyone want chicken pho, chicken vermicelli, rice, etc?" every time he personally pulls his cart to deliver food in the hallways of the Da Nang Oncology Hospital has become familiar to everyone here.

Everyone ate up the food respectfully. Those who weren't full would ask for more, and Toan always happily gave the extra food to everyone.

It is known that the meals Toan brings to the Da Nang Oncology Hospital are often cooked by donors, benefactors or the hospital. In addition, Toan will spend a part of his personal budget to contribute to improving the quality of the meals and this is also Toan's current main job.

“Most cancer patients undergo long-term treatment, many times, so their finances and finances decline very quickly. Therefore, free and charitable meals are extremely practical for them. Currently, the hospital organizes free meals for all 3 meals a day for patients, including holidays throughout the year without breaks” - Master, Doctor Tran Thi Thanh - Deputy Head of the Department of Nutrition - Dietetics, Da Nang Oncology Hospital said.
