Bamboo is

Bamboo is "breathed life" into unique handmade products.

Anyone who has ever set foot in Thuong Minh commune will surely be impressed with this land because everywhere you can see bamboo hedges and green bamboo forests. In a place that seems to have only ordinary trees, young man Ly Van Cuong has found his own way to start a business from his hometown's bamboo.

Cuong's idea came from simple images in daily life in the countryside. He said: "When I was young, I was familiar with the scene of people working on fields and bamboo all year round, but life was still difficult. I thought there had to be a different way, to turn bamboo into products of higher value."

Thinking is doing, without going to art school, nor having much capital, the only luggage the young man brought with him was a pair of skillful hands, patience and determination to pursue his ideas to the end.

At first, he only tried to make a few small products: bamboo cups, pen holders, tea boxes. Surprisingly, when he shared them on social networks, friends and acquaintances praised their beauty and ordered them. That was the beginning of his entrepreneurial journey.

Cuong pooled his savings to buy a grinder, his first asset to set up a small workshop. His bamboo workshop was divided into four areas: a raw material storage area, a processing area, a manufacturing area, and a product display area.

Day and night, he worked tirelessly to learn and make bamboo products. To ensure the quality of his products, Cuong sought out the elders in the village to learn how to select old bamboo and how to soak it to prevent termites. Along with that, he researched on the internet about shaping techniques, dyeing, and processing methods to make bamboo both durable and safe for users.

Through difficult days, up to now, Mr. Ly Van Cuong's bamboo products have been more complete and received the attention and support of many customers in and outside the province.

In which, products such as: pen holders, tea boxes, wine glasses, cups, teapots and decorative items... with prices ranging from several tens of thousands of Dong to several hundred thousand Dong for a product attract a large number of customers.

Through bamboo products, he wants to convey stories and unique cultural features of the nation, so he always pays attention to every detail, even the smallest, in each product.

In the story with us about the young man Ly Van Cuong, Mrs. Nong Thi Uyen, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuong Minh Commune, said: Thuong Minh Commune has a large area of bamboo, especially bamboo. Mr. Cuong's boldness in starting a business from the available raw materials in the locality is a very interesting direction. His model not only affirms the spirit of daring to think and daring to do of the youth but also contributes to creating output for bamboo in Thuong Minh.

To the "green" products that attract customers

Not stopping at ordinary products, Cuong boldly invested in printing and laser engraving equipment to engrave motifs, calligraphy, traditional patterns or logos upon request. Bamboo tea boxes engraved with the words “An” or “Phuc”, bamboo cups printed with ethnic patterns… quickly became unique souvenirs.

He shared: In feng shui, bamboo is considered a "secret weapon" to help attract wealth and fortune. With a hollow trunk, bamboo evokes tolerance and openness, while bringing positive energy, helping people achieve luck and prosperity. In particular, bamboo is also a symbol of gentlemanly qualities, the embodiment of solidarity, loyalty, nobility and indomitability - the most unique values of the Vietnamese people. I want to turn bamboo products into typical tourist gifts for visitors to Ba Be Lake - a famous tourist destination in the region. Visitors often want to bring back souvenirs associated with the locality. If bamboo is crafted into beautiful, unique products, it will both promote the homeland and help people earn more income.

The young man’s “green” products have gradually gained a foothold. Many customers inside and outside the province have come to order. In particular, with the trend of environmentally friendly consumption, products made from bamboo are increasingly popular.

As one of Mr. Cuong's regular customers, Ms. Ma Thi Ninh, Director of Yen Duong Cooperative in Thuong Minh commune, excitedly said: Bamboo tea boxes are products closely associated with forests and farms. We have signed a contract with Mr. Ly Van Cuong to create a set of Bamboo Boxes and fragrant pumpkin tea products, which both have traditional values and make unique gifts. Notably, at the Workshop on assessing the impact of the FFF II Vietnam program 2018-2025 on September 18, 2025, the product set was beautifully designed, printed with the logo of the PAO organization, and was welcomed by international friends as a green and sustainable gift.

Currently, Mr. Cuong is planning to expand the workshop, research new models and create jobs for young people in the village. Because starting a business is not only a way to enrich himself, but also a way to contribute to changing the face of his hometown, helping people to reduce hardship. He believes that "Beautiful, convenient, safe for health and environmentally friendly products will certainly be welcomed by consumers."

The story of a young man who "breathes life" into bamboo is not only a story of creativity and determination, but also proof that: if you know how to explore and dare to do, what seems to be the most ordinary can become a valuable product. Ly Van Cuong is continuing his green dream, the dream of bringing bamboo from his homeland far and wide.
