Khanh Hoa: Vegetation on Co Tien Mountain, Nha Trang City burned for many hours, 25 campers on the mountain were brought down safely by authorities on the afternoon of January 10.

At around 5pm, a small fire broke out on Co Tien Mountain, in Vinh Hoa Ward. A short while later, strong winds caused the fire to flare up, spreading to about a kilometer and many neighboring areas, with a tendency to spread eastward.

People in the city can observe the red flames, stretching across the mountain. The burned area on the mountain is a production forest land, mainly cogon grass, reed grass, small bushes and ground cover.

A working group of about 50 people led by the Forest Protection Department, along with many related units, was mobilized to contain the fire. However, due to the location of the fire on the top of the mountain, the terrain is complex and steep, so the authorities have not been able to access the scene.

Mr. Tran Van Dong, Secretary of Vinh Hoa Ward, said that the mountainous area often has vegetation fires. However, the fire has only appeared again in the past 3 years. The locality is coordinating with the relevant agencies to put out the fire.

Currently, the working group is monitoring the situation and discussing firefighting plans, planning to split into two directions to create a boundary to prevent the fire from spreading. By 9 p.m., the authorities had brought down a total of 25 people who had camped overnight on Co Tien Mountain to safety.

Fairy Mountain is located in the north of Nha Trang City, about 400 m high, with 3 adjacent peaks, resembling the figure of a woman with loose hair and face raised to the sky. This is an ideal camping spot for many people, from the top of the mountain, you can see the whole view of the coastal city.
