Consumer price index in March decreased but still increased more than 5% over the same period

On average, in the first quarter, Hai Duong's consumer price index increased by 5.19% compared to the same period.

The consumer price index in Hai Duong increased compared to the same period last year due to the increase in the food and beverage group in the third and fourth quarters of 2024, which has not decreased until now, creating a new price level, so the current price increased by an average of 7.9% compared to the first quarter of 2024. In addition, the price of medical services adjusted according to the new basic salary from the fourth quarter of 2024 led to an average price increase of 13.8% for this group.

Compared to the previous month, 3 out of 11 commodity groups decreased in price. Of which, the index of the transport group was 98.1%, down 1.9%, contributing 0.19% to the general consumer price index. The reason was that the State adjusted the price of gasoline and oil, so the index of the fuel group decreased by 4.41%, the public transport service group decreased by 1.92%...

The price index of the beverage and tobacco group was 99.89%, down 0.11%, mainly due to the decrease of alcohol of all kinds by 0.18%, contributing to the decrease of 0.01% in the general consumer price index. The index of the clothing, hats and footwear group was 99.97%, down 0.03%. The reason is that winter is over, many stores have deep discounts to boost consumption of goods, so the ready-made clothing group decreased by 0.12%.

On the contrary, some items in the month had a slight increase in price index compared to the previous month such as: housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials increased by 0.41%; food and catering services increased by 0.27%; culture, entertainment and tourism increased by 0.14%, contributing to the general CPI increase of 0.01%...

The decrease in the consumer price index in March reflects that some items have decreased, people spend less.
