According to a VNA reporter in the US, in the past 48 hours, many emails with content related to contract termination have been sent to dozens of employees at: the Department of Education , the Small Business Administration (SBA), the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the General Services Administration (GSA).

Emails sent to at least 45 people on probation at the SBA stated: "The agency has found you unfit for continued employment because your qualifications, knowledge, and skills do not match the current needs of the agency and your abilities are not sufficient to continue working at the agency." In addition, about 100 probationary employees at the GSA also received termination emails on February 12.

The move comes as US President Donald Trump has tasked billionaire Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with implementing a massive cut to the 2.3 million-person federal civilian workforce, an effort that has drawn a series of lawsuits from labor unions and criticism from some Republicans.

According to US government figures, there are currently about 280,000 civilian employees hired less than two years ago, most of whom are still on probation. Earlier, on February 11, President Trump signed an executive order significantly expanding DOGE's power, requiring government agencies to prepare for staff cuts and work closely with DOGE to identify employees who could be fired.
