Officially finalizing 3 subjects for 10th grade entrance exam, changing the 3rd subject after 3 consecutive years

(Dan Tri) - The Ministry of Education and Training officially issued a Circular on the Regulations on junior high school and high school admissions from the 2025-2026 school year.

According to the new Circular, high school admission (grade 10 entrance exam) is organized in one of three ways: selection, entrance exam or a combination of selection and selection.

With the entrance exam method, the number of exam subjects is 3 subjects with math, literature and 1 third subject or a combined exam.

Departments of Education and Training can choose one of two options. If choosing a third subject, it must be among the subjects that are evaluated by scores and the same subject must not be chosen for more than three consecutive years.

If choosing a combination exam, the subjects selected must be among the subjects that are assessed by scores.

The time for localities to announce the third subject is after the end of semester I and no later than March 31 every year.

With the admission method, the basis is the training results and learning results of the years of the general education program at the junior high school level or the regular education program at the junior high school level of the admission subject.

Regarding the exam duration of each subject, literature is 120 minutes, math is 90 or 120 minutes, the third subject is 60 or 90 minutes, and the combined exam is 90 or 120 minutes.

The exam content is within the secondary school education program, mainly grade 9 program.

In particular, the announcement of exam scores and benchmark scores for grade 10 from 2025 will take place simultaneously.

In addition, the new Circular empowers the Department of Education and Training to specifically regulate exam questions, invigilation, grading, and review of exams in accordance with actual conditions.

High schools under the Ministry of Education and Training , universities, colleges, and research institutes shall follow the instructions of the governing unit or comply with the regulations of the Department of Education and Training where the school is located.

The Ministry of Education and Training said the Circular was built on three core principles: Not causing costly pressure on parents; promoting comprehensive and unified education nationwide.

The 2024-2025 school year is the year that completes the implementation cycle of the 2018 Education Program from grades 1 to 12. Accordingly, this school year, the entrance exam for grade 10 high school and the high school graduation exam will follow the 2018 General Education Program.
