Mid-Autumn Festival programs for disadvantaged and disadvantaged children contribute to adding motivation and confidence to disadvantaged children, gradually narrowing the gap between the lowlands and the highlands.
“Lanterns light up dreams”
In the days leading up to the Mid-Autumn Festival, when the streets are filled with the sound of drums and lion dances, there are buses crossing mountains and passes bringing Mid-Autumn gifts to children in disadvantaged areas.
Two days before storm No. 10 made landfall in the Central provinces, a bus trip named “Lanterns lighting up dreams” organized by the Da Nang Youth Union in coordination with the city’s Charity and Children’s Rights Protection Association arrived in time to reach the mountainous children of Phuoc Chanh commune.
At Phuoc Cong 1 Primary School - where 100% of the students are Gie Trieng ethnic people, when the lion drum sounded, there were also "oh" and "ah" sounds and a round of applause from the students. Following the graceful steps of the lion, Ho Van Lanh (grade 1, Phuoc Cong 1 Primary School) happily cheered, his eyes sparkling with joy: "This is the first time I have seen a lion dance and touched a lion, I feel very happy and excited".
After the lion dance, nearly 500 children received Mid-Autumn gifts of candy and lanterns to complete the joy. The organizing committee awarded 50 more scholarships, each worth 500,000 VND, to students who overcame difficulties and excelled in their studies, as an encouragement for them to continue to strive to excel.
Ms. Le Ngoc Nhien Ha, Permanent Vice President of the City Council of Young Pioneers, said that the program “Lanterns to Light Up Dreams” is an annual activity every Mid-Autumn Festival to bring disadvantaged children a warm moon season, full of joy and love. Thereby, encouraging and motivating them to continue to strive to excel in their studies and life.
Full Moon Season
Continuing that meaning, Huong Sen Volunteer Club (under the Vietnam Youth Union of the city) and the city Red Cross organized the "Moon of Love" journey at Tak Po mountain school (Nam Tra My commune).
Mr. Dao Kim Long, Head of Huong Sen Charity Club, said that due to the impact of storm No. 10, the trip encountered many difficulties. However, with the spirit of solidarity, community responsibility and the desire to share love, each member redoubled their efforts with the determination to bring a moon-filled season of love to the children in the mountains.
“We organize for the children to enjoy the Mid-Autumn Festival with Uncle Cuoi and Sister Hang, watch lion dances, enjoy feasts, and receive gifts like urban children so that they can fully feel the joy of the full moon season, gradually shortening the gap between regions,” Mr. Long shared.
At the Danang Red Cross Center for the Elderly and Disabled - which is raising dozens of orphans and disabled children, this year's Mid-Autumn Festival is extremely special because the children can celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival in the warm and sharing arms of the whole community. During the "Full Moon Festival 2025", the children can watch lion dances, break cakes, carry lanterns and receive meaningful gifts from benefactors.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Tuyet, Acting Director of the Danang Red Cross Center for the Elderly and Disabled, said that this Mid-Autumn Festival, the center welcomed dozens of organizations, individuals, and philanthropists to visit, give gifts, and organize Mid-Autumn Festival for the children. This demonstrates the social responsibility of the whole community, ensuring that disadvantaged children are not left behind.
Mid-Autumn Festival is knocking on the door. The buses carrying the loving moon continue to roll to disadvantaged children, children in remote areas, border areas, and islands.
Not simply sharing cakes and candies, Mid-Autumn Festival is a bridge connecting hearts, an occasion for the community to join hands to share love with all children in society.
