Selling pressure increased at the end of last week, causing the VN-Index to close down nearly 36 points, pulling the index back to 1,731 points; the HNX-Index also closed at 276 points while the Upcom index was trading around 112 points.
A notable development is that in previous weeks, the VN-Index increased strongly but mainly due to the Vingroup group of stocks. By the end of the week, the profit-taking pressure from this group of stocks spread strongly to other lines, from banks, securities, real estate... As a result, investors' accounts were continuously eroded.
Many investors said that even though they did not use margin (borrowed capital) and the VN-Index continued to rise in recent weeks, the investment in their accounts continued to decrease because stock prices continued to fall.
"Some stocks in my portfolio, including banking, securities and real estate, are all losing 10-20% even without margin. Many of my friends who use margin have even bigger losses, even though the VN-Index is still above 1,700 points and the market has a lot of positive information after the upgrade, and the third quarter 2025 business results reports of businesses are also improving" - Mr. Hoang Thinh (an investor in Ho Chi Minh City) wondered.
VN-Index plummeted at the weekend, causing many investors' accounts to continue to be eroded.
Mr. Dinh Viet Bach, Analyst, Pinetree Securities Company, said that after selling pressure from Vingroup stocks, cash flow this week tended to shift to real estate stocks, helping this group maintain a relatively positive green color, even when VN-Index plunged nearly 40 points.
Regarding the trend next week, experts say the market is likely to continue to "adjust" but "to go up". The first support level could be the 1,700 point zone. This is the most positive scenario in the short term. However, if this zone is broken, the general index may fall to the next support zone around 1,670 points.
"The cash flow in the previous weeks mainly focused on Vingroup stocks and some stocks in the VN30 basket. When this group adjusted, the market lost its main driving force and needed time for the stock groups to re-accumulate before returning to an uptrend. The cash flow will likely continue to shift to the real estate industry - which is expected to be the market leader in the coming period," said Mr. Dinh Viet Bach.
According to CSI Securities Company, VN-Index closed the week down after reaching a historical high of 1,794 points with a high weekly trading volume, showing that investor sentiment has become much less optimistic. The short-term trend is fraught with more risks, although the reversal signal has not been confirmed.
In that context, "investors can continue to hold their portfolios and observe the support levels of 1,720 points and 1,670 points next week to increase the proportion of stocks" - the company recommended.
Although VN-Index is still above the 1,700 point mark, stock prices of many sectors are still in red.
Meanwhile, SHS Securities Company stated that the price range around 1,700 points is not an attractive area for disbursement, especially for groups of stocks that have had a period of sharp price increases in recent times. This broker recommends that investors should carefully evaluate stock buying positions based on the reasonable valuation of each enterprise and the business results of the third quarter of 2025 to control short-term risks.
