A meaningful trip back to the source

Tien Thanh Secondary School recently coordinated with its sister unit, the 681st Naval Brigade, to organize for 230 teachers, staff, soldiers and students to participate in an experiential activity visiting the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee Base relic site during the anti-American resistance war (Sa Lon), located in Dong Giang commune, Ham Thuan Bac district.

At exactly 7am, 5 passenger vans lined up one after another, after more than 2 hours of traveling nearly 80km, the whole group arrived at Sa Lon. The eager eyes, quick steps, and cheerful laughter gradually quieted down when everyone entered the central area of the Sa Lon Relic Site.

Feet that were used to the hot sand and salty sea breeze of the Tien Thanh coastal area now eagerly stepped on the stone slabs and steps leading to the guardhouses, shelters, and Hoang Cam kitchen. Eyes that were used to the distant view of the sea now curiously looked up to admire the green treetops that towered beyond the sight, seemingly touching the white clouds in the sky. The primeval forest with thousands of tall, straight trees really made a strong impression on the students who came here for the first time. The atmosphere became solemn and calm when everyone entered the Memorial House and displayed artifacts, pictures, and portraits of President Ho Chi Minh and his comrades who were former Secretaries of the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee from 1954 to 1975.

Following the tour guide, climbing hundreds of steps to an altitude of about 500m above sea level, we arrived at the original relic site, where many items had been restored. Everyone was tired, but when they saw the tour guide with his back drenched in sweat, he enthusiastically explained about the artifacts that were still preserved, the hardships and dangers of generations of fathers and brothers, local leaders who had stayed for a long time to lead the local army and people's fight against the Americans in this place. Without anyone telling anyone, both teachers and students, everyone listened quietly, their hearts filled with emotion mixed with admiration and respect for the talent, the indomitable will to not be afraid of hardship and sacrifice of generations of leaders of the province in the resistance war against the Americans to save the country, contributing a great part to the great victory of the historic spring of 1975.

Mr. Nguyen Van Minh - Principal of the school said: In general teaching, the school also pays special attention to local history education . Hopefully, after this meaningful trip, not only students but all teachers and staff of the school will have more practical experience and understanding of local history. And most importantly, it will contribute to educating the tradition of patriotism, arousing love for the homeland, and awareness of living worthy of the noble sacrifices of many previous generations. So that teachers and students can work together to teach and learn, contributing to building the homeland of Binh Thuan more and more beautiful.
