A well-intentioned but incorrect act - publicizing the list of students with difficult circumstances who received gifts on the occasion of the school opening day of September 5 - has upset many parents.
In the list of students' names and class names, there are also quotes about their family circumstances such as "parents divorced", "student with lymphoma", "poor family", "disabled student", "charity student"...
The incident happened at Thai Thinh Primary School (Dong Da, Hanoi). According to parents' feedback, the list was shown during the school's activity presentation to all teachers, students, parents and guests.
Some parents cited this incident to express their opposition because this practice violates students' privacy and can negatively affect children's psychology.
Immediately after that, on the official fanpage of Thai Thinh Primary School (Hanoi), there was a response:
"During the recent Opening Ceremony of the 2025-2026 school year, Thai Thinh Primary School made a major mistake when publicly displaying the list of students with difficult circumstances on the screen in front of all students, parents and guests attending.
The school is deeply aware that this is a very regrettable mistake and also a valuable lesson for the school to improve in organization and education work."
Although the school quickly took action to correct the mistake, the echoes of this "good motive, wrong method" issue continue to be discussed by parents. Some said they had witnessed similar incidents.
"My husband and I divorced and there was a time when my child was given an envelope of money by his teacher as a gift for disadvantaged students and students with special family circumstances. He refused to accept it but cried when he got home" - Ms. Lan Anh, a parent in Lot 10 - Dinh Cong urban area (Hanoi), recounted.
"The way you give is better than what you give" is what our ancestors used to say, and it's still true today. But unfortunately, the "wrong way of giving" happens in the educational environment, right on the first day of school for children.
