Asian Bac Giang Green Energy Environment Joint Stock Company: Applying thermal decomposition technology to effectively treat household waste

BAC GIANG - In 2024, Asian Bac Giang Green Energy Environment Joint Stock Company (Asian Company) was assigned by the People's Committee of Yen Dung district (now Bac Giang city) to temporarily manage the local centralized waste treatment area in Nham Bien ward, with an area of 6.4 hectares. On that basis, the Company has deployed the installation and put into trial operation of a domestic waste treatment plant applying thermal decomposition technology without secondary emissions - a completely new technology researched and developed by the enterprise itself.

No combustion – No emissions

Mr. Pham Quoc Hung - Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Asian Company, and also one of the four founders of this technology, informed: Unlike traditional incineration technology, Asian Company's waste treatment system applies thermal decomposition technology without combustion reaction, operating at temperatures from 280-320°C in a closed environment. After being treated, domestic waste will create three main products including: syngas, recycled oil and biochar.

Test crude syngas directly from the waste treatment furnace using thermal decomposition technology before entering the cleaning system.

This process does not emit dioxins, furans, dust or toxic gases into the environment – the plant does not use chimneys, demonstrating its commitment to a clean and green environment. Syngas is recycled to maintain heat in the furnace, while the recovered oil and biochar can be used as industrial fuel or agricultural land improvement.

Stable operation

After nearly a year of installation, by the end of 2024, the first treatment line has completed the trial run and officially put into stable and safe operation. Notably, the entire treatment process does not emit gas, water or solid waste into the environment.

Up to now, the Company has completed and put into operation two processing lines, and is currently installing a third line. The total design capacity of the three lines is about 200-280 tons/day, of which: Line 1 processes residual waste; line 2 processes daily generated household waste; line 3 (under installation) is capable of flexibly processing both residual waste and daily generated waste. Notably, Asian Company is performing waste treatment at Nham Bien Waste Treatment Area completely free of charge, demonstrating the corporate social responsibility.

The environment has improved significantly.

According to Mr. Vu Ngoc Hoan, Secretary of Nham Bien Ward Party Committee, during the operation of Asian Company's production lines, the area did not record any odor or dust causing environmental pollution. In particular, tens of thousands of tons of waste that had previously caused public outrage were almost completely treated after only a few months.

The operating room operates waste treatment lines using thermal decomposition technology.

Before 2023, Nham Bien waste treatment area used to be a "hot spot" of environmental pollution due to the old incinerator system, outdated technology, incomplete burning, causing toxic smoke and odor to be released into the environment, affecting the health of surrounding residents and damaging tens of thousands of square meters of crops in the adjacent area. However, since Asian Company deployed new technology in February 2025, all daily generated waste and residual waste have been basically treated. The landscape and environmental quality of the area have significantly improved.

Technology accepted for patent registration by the Intellectual Property Office

Based on that success, in February 2025, Asian Company submitted a technology patent application to the Department of Intellectual Property - Ministry of Science and Technology . On April 4, 2025, the Department issued a Decision to accept a valid application for this patent application.

Biochar is created from the process of treating household waste using thermal decomposition technology.

Mr. Pham Quoc Hung added that the Company has submitted a report to the People's Committee of Bac Giang province on the experimental results of the zero-emission household waste treatment technology and the plan to increase the plant's capacity to treat all waste generated in Bac Giang city and neighboring districts. The People's Committee of the province has directed specialized departments and branches to work with the enterprise on this content. "With the attention and support from the provincial government and related units, and with administrative procedures being quickly resolved, we believe that the application of new technology effectively in practice will be implemented smoothly. Thereby, contributing to realizing the goal of developing a circular economy, building a green - clean - modern urban area with appropriate waste treatment unit prices according to current regulations of the province," Mr. Hung emphasized.

Towards comprehensive environmental solutions

Not stopping at treating household waste, Asian Company is continuing to propose implementing a provincial-level scientific project with the name: "Application of thermal decomposition technology combined with catalyst to treat livestock waste, destroy dead animals in livestock, contributing to disease control and environmental protection in Bac Giang province". This is considered a strategic step towards the goal of comprehensively treating all types of harmful waste in agriculture and livestock, in line with the trend of environmental protection and sustainable development of the province.

The success of Asian Company in applying thermal decomposition technology to treat household waste without emissions in Bac Giang is not only an advanced technological solution but also demonstrates a sustainable development model, harmonizing economic growth and environmental protection.
