On September 25, E Hospital informed that doctors of the Department of Nephrology, Urology and Andrology had received and successfully treated a male patient (77 years old, in Hanoi ) suffering from 3 urogenital diseases at the same time: Prostate enlargement, right inguinal hernia and a giant 3kg lipoma in the right scrotum.
Doctor Nguyen Duy Tri Dung - Department of Nephrology, Urology and Andrology Surgery said that the patient was hospitalized with a prolonged urinary disorder with symptoms of difficulty urinating, having to strain to urinate, frequent urination day and night, accompanied by episodes of hematuria... In particular, an abnormal mass appeared in the right scrotum that grew larger and larger, causing discomfort, heaviness and greatly affecting daily activities.
Through clinical examination combined with paraclinical tests and imaging diagnosis, doctors determined that the patient had a hard, giant lipoma in the right scrotum, about 12-15 cm in size.
Through medical history, the patient had many underlying diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes for many years, and had undergone laparoscopic surgery to remove prostate hypertrophy 7 years ago. However, after that, because the patient was subjective and did not go for regular check-ups, the urinary symptoms recurred and became more and more severe. About a year ago, the patient discovered an abnormal mass in the right scrotum, which grew rapidly, causing difficulty in movement and daily activities, and causing the patient to fall into a state of fatigue and prolonged anxiety.
Dr. Dung said that in this patient's case, the tumor was huge, about 12-15 cm in size, approximately 3 kg. If the patient went to the doctor and received treatment early, when the tumor was small, the treatment would be easier and more thorough, minimizing post-operative complications such as fluid accumulation, edema, etc. However, due to the patient's subjectivity and lack of timely treatment, the tumor became larger and larger, affecting daily life. Surgery to remove it is necessary and must be performed as soon as possible, because the tumor is still growing and increasing in size.
The surgery went smoothly, accurately and effectively. The doctors performed a surgical procedure to completely remove the giant lipoma in the right scrotum, and at the same time, performed laparoscopic surgery to completely treat the right inguinal hernia and intervened on the remaining enlarged prostate. After surgery, the patient recovered quickly, the symptoms of urinary disorders were significantly improved, the abnormal mass in the scrotum disappeared, helping the patient feel much more relieved and comfortable.
Doctors recommend that prostate enlargement is a common disease in older men, which can cause prolonged urinary disorders, seriously affecting the quality of life. Meanwhile, inguinal hernias and scrotal tumors are also common surgical diseases, but if not detected and treated promptly, they can cause complications, reducing the patient's health and spirit. Patients, especially middle-aged and elderly men, when experiencing symptoms of urinary disorders, hematuria, or detecting an abnormal mass in the scrotum, etc., need to go to reputable medical facilities with full specialties for timely diagnosis and treatment./.
