Belonging to the psychological - family - comedy genre, The Lowlife War is set in a bustling urban setting, bringing viewers into the survival battle of a three-generation family.
Faced with the risk of losing their only home, each member, with their own wounds and aspirations, is forced to find a way to hold on to their "temporary home" by using all sorts of tragicomedies. Their hidden corners are gradually exposed, pushing everything to the brink of collapse.

Interestingly, the film script was developed by screenwriter Nhi Bui - the person behind many film projects such as Dear Mom, I'm Going, Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story, Godfather , Billion Dollar Kiss..., inspired by the "picking up a wife" situation in the work " The Picked-up Wife " by writer Kim Lan.
According to screenwriter Nhi Bui, The Picked-Up Wife is the core to build the relationships in the film, between the two characters Mr. Sang (played by Thai Hoa) and Ms. Be Gai (played by Le Phuong). This is a highlight that is deeply Vietnamese, with more family connection than bloodline.
However, according to Nhi Bui, he was only inspired by the 'idea' of The Picked-Up Wife and did not repeat the old story. The original work has been around for a long time and is no longer new, but when placed in a modern context, he still found new material worth exploiting. "I used the idea of 'picking up' to develop, but developed it to be diverse and different in the situations between the characters," said screenwriter Nhi Bui.

In the main poster revealed by the crew, the image of the whole family hugging each other with absent-minded, anxious faces evokes many thoughts. In the center position, Mr. Sang and Ms. Be Gai become the support for the members but at the same time also contain many insecurities. The old, faded corrugated iron sheet details symbolize the uncertainty and harshness of life, contrasting with the blue sky, a symbol of hope.
In contrast to the usual heavy atmosphere, the first teaser has a humorous, bustling and "very real" tone. In a patchwork house, lacking to the point that " a thief breaking in causes depression " , Mr. Sang still maintains an optimistic spirit, supporting his family with charming jokes.

Reuniting with Le Phuong after 10 years, Thai Hoa had many compliments for his co-star, especially for his freshness in acting. For his part, actor Le Phuong said he felt a special energy from his senior.
In the film, he and Le Phuong have many scenes together, requiring high emotions and close coordination.
The Downstream War is scheduled to air exclusively on VieON from October 23.
