Storm No. 10 caused a lot of damage in the mountainous commune of Mo Vang.

The traffic system was almost paralyzed: Provincial Road 175 had 19 landslides; rural roads had 102 landslides with tens of thousands of cubic meters of rock and soil; Khe Hop suspension bridge had broken pillars and was deformed; the underground tunnel and Sai Luong iron bridge were severely damaged.

Khe Long 2 Kindergarten is no longer in use, the central school has suffered serious landslides; Mo Vang Secondary School has many damaged items. Khe Long 2 and Khe Long 3 villages are completely isolated...

After only a few days of flood, Mo Vang was covered with deep wounds, but the biggest luck was that there were no human casualties. As long as there are people, there is everything, there is strength to revive.

Mr. Do Cao Quyen - Chairman of People's Committee of Mo Vang Commune

After the natural disaster, the local forces were fully mobilized. Working groups led by local leaders directly inspected the damage situation; directed remedial measures, support plans for households, arranged appropriate resettlement, and promptly cleared traffic routes to ensure travel, transportation of goods, and learning for people and students.

In addition, the commune organized visits, encouragement, and added strength to help people steadfastly overcome natural disasters.

Leaders of Mo Vang commune directly inspected and directed the work of overcoming the consequences of storms and floods.

Mr. Song A Thang, one of the households whose house in Khe Long 2 village completely collapsed, confided: On the morning of October 2, the commune leaders walked for many hours, crossing the landslide to come to us. The officials also gave gifts, visited, encouraged and affirmed that they would soon arrange resettlement for the family to stabilize their lives.

"That timely concern is a solid spiritual support, adding motivation and confidence for us to overcome this difficult time," Mr. Thang said emotionally.

The Commune Health Station quickly organized disinfection spraying in flooded areas to prevent post-flood epidemics; and prepared a stock of medicine to serve people's health care.

71 soldiers of Regiment 254, the Provincial Military Command marched to the commune, together with local forces to participate in overcoming the consequences of the natural disaster. From the people to the commune officials, youth, police, militia, without anyone telling anyone, everyone actively cleared mud and soil, cleared the flow, rebuilt temporary bridges, and ensured accommodation, food, and drinking water for affected households.

The commune also mobilized people to borrow boats, pay for engine oil and hire boat owners to operate them, as a means of transportation to replace the bridge when Khe Hop suspension bridge was broken, helping people travel on both banks; at the same time, leveled and added more soil and rocks to make a temporary road down to the boat dock.

With these efforts, the school is now ready to welcome students back. For Khe Long 2 kindergarten, the commune has persuaded the Head of Khe Long 2 village to let 42 kindergarten children study at home. At the same time, the commune has made a document requesting the province and calling for socialized resources to urgently invest in building prefabricated houses for this school in the shortest time.

Urgently clear the route at landslide points.

Many landslide and broken roads were also urgently cleared of rocks and soil to clear the way, allowing motorbikes and trucks to move, such as: the road to the center of Sai Luong 3 village, the Khe Dam to Khe Sung route, the route to Sai Luong 1 village...

For the two isolated villages of Khe Long 3 and Khe Long 2, the commune has arranged an additional excavator to support the repair of the road into the village to speed up the repair progress; transported 500 kg of rice to support households whose houses were swept away, severely damaged, houses with positive slope landslides, poor households, and near-poor households in Khe Long 2 village; maintained a volunteer group to transport engine oil, enough to supply 2 excavators to operate continuously to carry out the work of scooping up rocks and soil.

Thanks to that, Khe Long 3 village has broken the isolation, and Khe Long 2 village is expected to open the road on October 7.

The work of overcoming the consequences of natural disasters caused by storm No. 10 is still unfinished, but Mo Vang is not at all subjective or negligent about the circulation of storm No. 11. The commune has proactively issued an urgent dispatch to carefully prepare for plans to prevent and combat the circulation of storm No. 11.

Accordingly, the commune has assigned leaders of the commune People's Committee and specialized departments to be on duty 24/7, closely monitoring weather developments, promptly informing and warning authorities and people to proactively deploy measures to prevent, combat and limit damage. Plans, forces and means are also ready for emergency situations.

The commune has also established working groups to spread out to all 16 villages in the area to grasp the situation of overcoming the circulation of storm No. 10 and preventing the circulation of storm No. 11.

In villages and communes, propaganda work should be stepped up, warning people to absolutely not be subjective or negligent in the face of unusual developments of natural disasters; review all old landslides and new dangerous areas arising after the circulation of storm No. 10 to prepare evacuation plans.

Mr. Do Cao Quyen - Chairman of the Commune People's Committee added: As soon as we received information from the grassroots about the situation of the positive slope behind Mo Vang Kindergarten showing signs of landslides, potentially dangerous, we urgently mobilized forces to the scene, supported the school in clearing, moving teaching equipment, and ensuring property safety.

The work of guarding, controlling, supporting and guiding to ensure traffic safety for people and vehicles, especially at culverts, spillways, deep flooded areas, fast-flowing water areas and places where landslides have occurred or are at risk, is actively deployed.

Currently, the commune has urgently welded fixed steel bars at the entrance to the damaged Khe Hop suspension bridge, determined not to let people and vehicles pass through, minimizing human damage due to carelessness or subjectivity.
