Traditional toy trends
If in the past, the market was often dominated by trendy imported toys, in recent years, parents have preferred to choose environmentally friendly and safe products that evoke childhood memories and have traditional beauty. Bamboo star lanterns, lanterns, small drums, mini lion heads, lanterns shaped like carp, butterflies, rabbits, etc., which have been familiar to many generations, are now widely available.
Ms. Huynh Thai Doanh - owner of Thai Nguyen toy store (Long Chau ward) shared: "Since the 6th lunar month, I have prepared to import more handmade items. Not only choosing toys for children, but many parents also want to find their childhood memories through star lanterns or carp lanterns. Thanks to that, the shopping atmosphere is warmer and more connected. The store has the service "Ms. Hang - Mr. Cuoi gives TT gifts" to create more experience for customers. With a fee of 50,000 VND/delivery point, within a radius of 3-5km, customers will receive gifts with wishes from familiar characters in fairy tales, making TT Tet more meaningful".
Some toy store owners said that the 2-piece paper lantern model priced at 25,000 VND/piece is still the most popular, while improved traditional lamps with durable, lightweight plastic frames cost from 30,000-60,000 VND/piece, depending on size and color; lion heads cost from 250,000 VND/piece to more than 2 million VND/piece...
However, according to retailers, purchasing power is still lower than the same period last year. The reason is that consumers are tightening their spending. To avoid inventory, stores are also balancing their imports.
Ms. Ngoc Thuyen (Hieu Thanh commune) said: "Seeing that my child likes to assemble lanterns, I bought bamboo frames and cellophane, and the whole family participated in making lanterns. The atmosphere of Tet TT is much more joyful. This year, this lantern model has been designed with LED lights instead of candles, so it is very safe for children."
Not only familiar designs, this year the TT toy market also recorded creativity in design. Some products are improved with new materials that are durable, light, and can be reused many times. The glass paper lamps are painted with sharp patterns and eye-catching colors, both preserving the old style and matching modern aesthetics, used by cafes, restaurants, and entertainment areas for decoration, attracting the attention of customers.
Strengthening market control
During the Tet holiday, the demand for confectionery, food and children's toys often increases sharply, leading to the risk of smuggled and poor quality goods entering the market. To prevent and stop violations, the authorities have implemented a plan for peak inspection, post-inspection and comprehensive supervision to protect consumer rights.
Authorities strengthen market inspection and supervision during the Mid-Autumn Festival. |
Mr. Le Thanh Phong - Deputy Head of the Provincial Market Management Department, said: The Department has directed market management teams to strengthen supervision, coordinate with police, health and local authorities to inspect assigned areas.
The focus of inspection is on production and business establishments selling products that are in high demand during the holiday season such as cakes, candies, alcohol, soft drinks, children's toys, etc.
The inspection content focuses on legal conditions; origin of raw materials and goods; regulations on product declaration and labeling; hygiene and safety conditions in processing, preserving and circulating goods.
We also pay attention to checking e-commerce channels and livestream sales, where there are many potential risks of counterfeit and smuggled goods. Violations will be strictly handled to ensure a healthy business market and protect consumers.
According to the plan, post-inspection activities and enhanced market inspection of TT will be implemented from September to October, with the establishment of a team to directly inspect TT cake production facilities and monitor the circulation and trading of goods in the market. The inspection work is also associated with the dissemination of food safety laws, guiding facilities to comply with regulations and receiving feedback from people via hotline for timely handling.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong Giang - owner of 3 TT cake stalls in Long Chau ward said: Periodic inspections by authorities not only help legal businesses to be protected, avoid unfair competition from poor quality goods, but also create trust for consumers. When products have full information on origin, source, and listed price, customers will feel more secure in their choice.
According to the authorities, this year's TT market still has many potential fraudulent tricks such as labeling fake big brands, smuggling goods of unknown origin, using poor quality materials or selling near-expiry or expired goods.
The management agency recommends that consumers do not buy “super cheap” TT cakes or products floating on the internet. Instead, they should choose products with intact labels, packaging, clear expiration dates and follow the manufacturer’s storage instructions. When the authorities tighten inspections and people proactively choose to buy safe products, the TT market will become more transparent, contributing to a warm, safe and healthy holiday season.
