Da Nang affirms its new role in international integration in the 2025-2030 period

With many foreign affairs milestones in the 2021-2025 period, Da Nang enters the 2025-2030 period with new determination: expanding international relations, promoting economy, culture and building a livable city.

On September 26, the People's Committee of Da Nang City organized the Conference "Da Nang - New space, new driving force, striving for integration and development" to summarize the work of international integration and cooperation in the period of 2021-2025, with orientation for 2025-2030.

The event gathered 200 delegates, including leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , diplomatic missions, international organizations, business associations and the city's foreign affairs staff.

Integration marks 2021–2025

Over the past 5 years, Da Nang's international integration work has left many clear marks.

The city has expanded relations with 60 localities in 24 countries, signed 120 cooperation agreements, and welcomed more than 3,000 international delegations, including many high-level delegations. International events have been continuously hosted, such as the ASEAN Information Ministers' Meeting, Da Nang Meet 2024, or the Friendship and Cooperation Cities Forum 2025, contributing to expanding opportunities for substantive cooperation.

Economic diplomacy played a pivotal role as the city licensed 288 domestic projects with a total capital of more than VND208 trillion and 797 foreign direct investment projects with a total capital of more than US$1.07 billion.

Total import-export turnover reached 41 billion USD; the city received more than 14,800 billion VND in ODA support capital and 1,432 billion VND in non-governmental aid, creating large resources for the fields of health, environment and social security.

Tourism also made a strong breakthrough with 36 million visitors, including 11.7 million international visitors. Events such as the International Fireworks Festival, the IRONMAN 70.3 race, the National Tourism Year... affirmed Da Nang's position as a dynamic and friendly destination.

In his opening speech, Standing Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Ho Ky Minh emphasized: " In the 2021-2025 period, despite facing many difficulties, the city's international integration and cooperation work has achieved many important results, contributing to enhancing the position of Da Nang in the region and internationally. "

In his summary report at the conference, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Xuan Binh said: " Da Nang has identified international integration and cooperation as one of the important driving forces to overcome difficulties and promote sustainable development. "

Mr. Binh stated that maintaining a diverse cooperation network, attracting high-quality FDI projects, and promoting new initiatives such as the International Financial Center, Free Trade Zone, cooperation programs on science and technology, education, health, tourism, etc. have built a foundation for sustainable development for Da Nang.

Orientation 2025–2030

Entering the 2025-2030 period, Da Nang identified international integration as a continuing strategic driving force, in line with Resolution 59-NQ/TW of the Politburo.

The city aims to affirm its role as the economic, political and cultural center of the Central region; develop into an international financial center and free trade zone; widely promote the cultural values ​​of the new Da Nang (Quang Nam and Da Nang merged); and at the same time build high-quality human resources to meet the globalization environment.

Standing Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Ho Ky Minh shared: "The issuance of Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW dated January 24, 2025 by the Politburo on international integration in the new situation has affirmed that international integration is one of the strategic driving forces for national development.

To achieve the goals, the city needs to implement 5 solutions and 3 strategic breakthroughs in the coming time. First of all, it is necessary to improve research and forecasting capacity to anticipate cooperation and investment trends. Next, it is necessary to consider economic integration as the focus, synchronously deploy strategic projects, and take advantage of the post-merger process to create new growth momentum.

The city will also strongly promote regional connectivity and the role of the Nam Giang - Dac Ta Ooc international border gate, exploiting the regional trade corridor. In the cultural field, continue to promote heritage, organize regional and international events, consider this as a "soft bridge" to enhance people-to-people exchanges and affirm the new Da Nang brand on the world map.

"The city identifies this as a guideline to continue improving the quality and effectiveness of integration in the coming time, with the spirit of being proactive, comprehensive, and extensive; taking businesses and people as the center, the subject and the beneficiary; harmoniously combining promoting internal resources and taking advantage of external resources, between foreign affairs - integration with economic, cultural, social development, ensuring national defense and security," Mr. Minh emphasized.

In particular, Da Nang advocates putting people at the center of integration. Each citizen is expected to become an “integration ambassador” through friendliness and initiative in international exchange and cooperation.

On this occasion, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City awarded certificates of merit to 18 domestic and foreign collectives and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to international integration and cooperation in the 2021-2025 period./.
