Also attending the meeting were Standing Committee Member of the City Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Nam Hung and representatives of relevant departments and branches.
According to the report, Chu Lai Open Economic Zone (established in 2003) has an area of over 27,000 hectares, attracting 237 investment projects with a total registered capital of about 94 trillion VND (equivalent to about 3.69 billion USD), including 63 FDI projects, creating jobs for 45,000 - 50,000 workers, contributing 55-65% of Quang Nam's previous budget revenue.
Chu Lai Open Economic Zone currently has 14 established industrial parks and 7 operating industrial parks, attracting 165 projects with registered capital of more than VND82,000 billion.
Notably, Chu Lai - Truong Hai Automobile Mechanical Industrial Park has 46 secondary projects, an occupancy rate of 85%, providing regular jobs for more than 13,000 workers.
Mechanical, automobile, and supporting industry products have been exported to the US, Japan, South Korea, and Europe. Dynamic infrastructure has also developed strongly, such as: Chu Lai airport is planned to become a 4F international airport, with a capacity of 10 million passengers/year by 2030; Quang Nam seaport is a type I port, capable of receiving 30,000 DWT ships, with an output of 4 million tons in 2024. At the same time, the Cua Lo channel dredging project for 50,000-ton ships and the Gas - Electricity Center are being promoted.
At the meeting, representatives of the Management Board of Economic Zones and Industrial Parks of Quang Nam province pointed out a number of limitations such as: overlapping legal frameworks on economic zones and industrial parks, limited investment resources, unsynchronized infrastructure for logistics and Ky Ha maritime route, and high transportation costs.
Many urban and coastal and riverside tourism projects are slow to be implemented. The demand for social housing and workers' housing is growing but has not been met in a timely manner.
In the new context after the merger, the Management Board of Economic Zones and Industrial Parks of Quang Nam province proposed that the city unify the policy of assigning the unit to develop a project to expand the boundary of Chu Lai Open Economic Zone, and at the same time request the City Party Committee to promptly summarize Resolution No. 07-NQ/TU dated May 4, 2021 on the development orientation of the Southeast region to issue a new resolution to orient the development of the economic zone in the coming period.
The Management Board of Economic Zones and Industrial Parks of Quang Nam province also proposed prioritizing capital allocation from 2026 to the period 2026 - 2030 to implement infrastructure projects for residential areas, resettlement and workers' housing, and people's cemeteries; the city needs to soon propose to the Central Government to complete a solid and stable legal framework for long-term stability.
At the working session, the departments and branches also discussed many contents related to Nam Giang Border Gate Economic Zone and projects related to this economic zone.
Chairman of the City People's Committee Pham Duc An highly appreciated the results achieved and emphasized that the economic zones will be a great driving force for the city's development. In particular, with the advantage of protecting the existing planning quite well, Chu Lai Open Economic Zone will be an important driving force for the city's goal of maintaining double-digit growth in the coming time.
The Chairman of the City People's Committee emphasized that the development of industrial parks is necessary but must ensure that it does not disrupt the general planning, aiming towards a long-term, sustainable vision, in accordance with the planning of the new Da Nang city.
At the same time, assign specific roles, define responsibilities to each individual, clearly define work, clear efficiency and must have products, creating a foundation for the upcoming development path of the city.
