Da Nang prepares plan to evacuate more than 210,000 people, high risk of landslides in mountainous areas

The Da Nang City Civil Defense Command said the city plans to evacuate more than 210,000 people in case storm Bualoi (storm number 10) strengthens.

On the evening of September 27, the Da Nang City Civil Defense Command said that in the event of a strong storm and major impact, the city plans to evacuate 210,014 people.

Of which, the plan is to relocate 92,041 people, concentrating 117,974 people in school areas, churches, pagodas, cultural houses, community activity houses; and solid constructions concentrated in the locality.

According to the Da Nang City Civil Defense Command, as of noon today, the city still has 200 fishing boats with 3,371 workers at sea. Of which, the coastal area has 88 boats/185 workers; the offshore area has 34 boats/211 workers; the Hoang Sa area has 12 boats/115 workers; the Truong Sa area has 66 boats/2,860 workers.

Since the afternoon of September 27, the City Border Guard Command has fired flares to warn of the storm and banned the sea until the storm dissipates. They are currently continuing to monitor and contact vehicle owners to call for shelter from the storm.

On the evening of September 27, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Nguyen Bao Han - Deputy Head of the Department of Water Resources and Irrigation Management, Department of Agriculture and Environment of Da Nang - said that the current water level on Vu Gia - Thu Bon River, Han River and Tam Ky River is below alert level 1.

However, in the coming days, there is a possibility of a flood on the rivers. The flood level in the upstream reaches 3 - 6m, and in the downstream reaches 0.5 - 1.5m.

With the above rainfall, flood peaks on rivers are forecast at alert level 1 to alert level 2. There is a risk of flooding in low-lying areas along rivers and inundation in urban areas.

Soil moisture is near saturation, be careful of landslides

According to Mr. Han, the current soil moisture model shows that some areas in Da Nang City are nearly saturated (over 90%).

Therefore, according to warnings, many areas are at risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams in mountainous areas, landslides on steep slopes, and land subsidence.

Specifically, the risk areas are in the following wards and communes: Hai Van; Lien Chieu; Son Tra; Hoa Khanh; Ba Na; Hoa Vang; Hoa Tien; Dai Loc; Song Vang; Hung Son; La Ee; Tay Giang; A Vuong; Dong Giang; Ben Hien; Thanh My; Thuong Duc; Ha Nha; Phu Thuan; Thu Bon; Duy Xuyen; Nong Son; Que Phuoc; Phuoc Hiep; Hiep Duc; Viet An; Que Son; Dong Duong; Son Cam Ha; Tay Ho; Tien Phuoc; Phu Ninh; Duc Phu; Tam My; Tra Lien.
