The project to upgrade and expand Nguyen Chi Thanh Street is 1.6km long with a total cost of more than 110 billion VND. The project includes 2 phases, in which phase 1 is expanded to 11.5m, phase 2 is 19.5m.

This route connects Nguyen Duy Hieu bridge (crossing Co Co river) to the intersection of DT607B route. This is a vital route that has been upgraded and expanded to reduce the load on the ancient town of Hoi An with a smooth coastal route from DT603B - Nguyen Duy Hieu bridge - Cam Kim bridge - to Duy Xuyen.

It is known that since 2018, Hoi An City People's Committee has issued a notice on land recovery of hundreds of households on both sides of Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, in Cam Ha Commune and Tan An Ward to serve the upgrading and expansion of the road.

However, according to the Center for Land Fund Development - Housing Fund of Hoi An City, both phases of the project are currently facing difficulties and problems in compensation clearance for a total of 60 households. The city authorities are continuing to work and mobilize people to hand over the land to complete the project soon. In some cases, the locality is considering using coercive measures.

With the shabby construction situation, especially near the market (near the DT607 intersection), for a long time, people in this area have had to live with pollution. In the sunny and windy season, the dust flies everywhere, and in the rainy season, they have to endure mud with "potholes" and "elephant holes" that are unsafe for traffic.

This is considered a vital route to reduce the load for the ancient town of Hoi An, connecting Nguyen Duy Hieu bridge and Cam Kim bridge, but is still congested. Photo: QT

Regarding this issue, not only voters in the affected area but also voters in some other communes and wards in Hoi An city have made many petitions, but up to now the road is still under construction.

It is known that the congestion in handing over the site is partly due to the project being implemented in 2 phases with compensation policies that have price differences, so many households have not yet agreed on a compensation plan to hand over the site.

Over time, almost the entire route has seriously degraded. Notably, this will be the route that the authorities will calculate to adjust the route of National Highway 14H instead of going through Phuoc Trach Bridge as before.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Son - Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee, the upgrading and expansion of Nguyen Chi Thanh Street is likely to be completed by the end of this year.

The road connecting DT603B to Nguyen Duy Hieu bridge (in Dien Ban town) is currently just a small, narrow, degraded concrete road and will not be synchronized throughout the route if Nguyen Chi Thanh road is upgraded. Photo: QT

Another problem on this route is that the road section from DT603B connecting to Nguyen Duy Hieu bridge (in Dien Ban town) is currently degraded and narrow, making it impossible for large vehicles to pass through this route.

"The section from Nguyen Duy Hieu bridge to the coastal road (DT603B) is currently only a small, narrow concrete road about 2.5-3m wide. The Department of Transport and Dien Ban town need to calculate an upgrade to synchronize with this side of the bridge in Hoi An city. Only then will the Nguyen Duy Hieu bridge project and this entire road be effective in the long term when the 19.5m wide Nguyen Chi Thanh road is upgraded" - said Mr. Nguyen Van Son.
