Innovate with special programs
On September 29, Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City opened the first course of the HUB Elite Class, a special training program designed to bring students into tune with the strict requirements of the global labor market.
Right from the opening session, the difference was evident: The entire content was taught entirely in English, under the guidance of domestic and foreign Professors and Associate Professors. Students not only received professional knowledge but were also encouraged to debate, work in groups, and practice critical thinking - learning methods that are now the standard at many leading international universities.
In fact, in the wave of integration and digital transformation, universities are accelerating adjustments to training programs to help students immediately meet the strict requirements of the labor market.
Sharing on the day of announcing the Elite Class program, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duc Trung - Principal of Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City said that in the context of globalization, students not only need to be good at their major, but also need to be good at foreign languages, skills of the 4.0 era such as data analysis, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, programming languages.
“According to the training program design, Elite Class selects students from the best student group, with international curriculum, lecturers from prestigious universities participating in teaching. Besides English and Chinese, students also have access to fields that are shaping the future such as financial technology (fintech), blockchain, artificial intelligence.
Another highlight of Elite Class is its practicality: The schedule is arranged as “3 days of study, 2 days of internship, 1 day of social experience”. The school hopes that through this model, students will not only have solid knowledge but also possess soft skills, foreign languages and practical experience - factors that help them confidently compete in the international labor market that is changing every day”, said Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duc Trung.

Learn for real, do for real
Not only stopping at offering elite training programs, many universities today are also boldly working directly with businesses to build practical courses. Recently, the University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) in collaboration with VNG Corporation (VNG) opened the course "Developing Game Programming Skills for Practical Applications".
With this course, students not only learn theory but also directly participate in developing complete Game products, ready for release on global ecosystems. The program is built on the Game Development Fresher (GDF) platform of ZingPlay Game Studios (ZPS) combined with the Software Engineering training framework of UIT.
The special feature of the course is the philosophy of “learning by doing”. The entire learning process takes place at VNG Campus, where students are immersed in a real business environment, taking advantage of available facilities and technology resources. The final project is also practical: Students must design, program and publish their own game products on the App Store or Google Play, thereby building an impressive personal portfolio while still in the classroom.
The program is accompanied by a team of leading lecturers, directly mentoring students in each stage, from idea generation, character design, client-server programming, graphics, sound, testing to marketing and product release. Thereby, students have a comprehensive view of the life cycle of a professional game product.
Dr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang - Vice Principal of the University of Information Technology said that this training cooperation not only gives students the opportunity to study in a modern industrial environment, but also realizes the model of school - business connection.
“Students not only acquire knowledge, but also practice practical skills, professional working style and product thinking, key factors for success in the gaming industry,” said Mr. Khang.
Towards sustainable development
More than just a slogan, sustainable development has become a strategic orientation in higher education . At the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City), the sustainable development strategy is defined in a long-term roadmap and specified in each 5-year phase.
MSc. Tran Nam - Head of Student Affairs Department, said: “Sustainable development is the right trend, this has been affirmed. One of the issues raised today is that sustainable development activities must be substantive, meaning that practitioners need to clearly understand the concept, solutions and specific actions. Therefore, universities must equip students with both knowledge and skills to implement it.”
According to MSc Nam, if the strategy is effectively implemented, students will develop a sustainable mindset that can be applied in their studies, research, work and family life. “If many universities do well together, we will gradually create a young generation that lives and works responsibly, aiming for sustainability,” MSc Nam said.
In fact, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, activities towards sustainable development have been implemented for a long time through many programs: Environmental protection, support for vulnerable groups in society, research on educational solutions, poverty reduction, social security, social justice and gender equality. Typical initiatives such as Green University, Green Compass Handbook or exhibitions on sustainable development... have become places for students to explore, practice and spread responsible lifestyles.
From a broader perspective, young people, pupils and students are still the key group driving social development. Therefore, systematically engaging them to improve their understanding and practice of sustainable development is an important solution.
MSc. Nam paid special attention to the role of women: "In addition to understanding and practicing sustainable development in personal perspectives and actions, they are also effective spreaders in the family, through consumer behavior and child rearing, contributing to creating a more sustainable next generation."
From another perspective, MSc. Ho Duc Sinh - Director of the Center for Business Cooperation, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, said that business cooperation centers in universities are the gateway connecting schools and businesses, helping students access professional practices, while supporting businesses to participate in the training process. Thereby, students graduating from school not only have knowledge but also have skills and experience close to human resource needs.
“At Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, the business cooperation center coordinates with units across the school to develop training programs according to business orders, aiming to improve the capacity of employees.
In addition, the center regularly connects and exchanges with leaders of businesses and industrial parks to grasp human resource needs, especially in key and spearhead industries for economic development needs," said MSc. Ho Duc Sinh.
On September 22, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) in collaboration with Dear Our Community launched the Sustainable Student Community. This is an initiative in the university's sustainable university strategy, operating under a multi-stakeholder cooperation model.
The club creates a space for learning, practice, connecting professionals and businesses, and provides internship, job and credit opportunities. The student management team is empowered to take the initiative and play a role in external relations, community building and project management.
