If not counting the regional and subject priority bonus points, Trang Thi Ha (former student of class 12C1, Lao Cai Boarding Ethnic High School) has a total of 28.25 points for block C00, including 9.75 for Literature; 9.5 for History and 9 for Geography.

With a total admission score of 29.05, the female student can be admitted to all majors with high standard scores at Hanoi National University of Education this year such as Literature Pedagogy (28.48); History - Geography Pedagogy (28.6); Geography Pedagogy (28.79)... or many majors at many other universities.

However, she registered her desire to study National Defense and Security Education , a major that is not “hot” or trendy in the opinion of many people. Ha chose Hanoi National University of Education because she believed that this is the best pedagogical environment in the country.

Sharing about her decision to study, Ha said that before applying for university admission, she did some research and found that this was a special major but suitable for her, so she decided to choose it.

“I think that when studying this major, I will not only be equipped with knowledge about national defense and security, but also be trained to be physically and mentally strong and resilient. I also heard from my seniors that when studying this major, I will learn more about history. I believe that learning more about history will nurture patriotism, which is also an opportunity for me to train myself,” Ha shared.

She also wondered if pursuing this major would result in job opportunities or income after graduation not being as good as some other majors. “However, in the end, I think that if I really have enough passion, those things are not a problem,” Ha said.

Ha said that when she registered to study National Defense and Security Education, many of her classmates at the same high school wondered, even sighing with regret. “They asked me why I didn’t register for other more trendy teaching majors. I just explained that it was because I felt it was interesting and suitable for me,” Ha said.

Those who know Ha's situation admire her even more. When Ha was 10 years old, her parents divorced. Since then, Ha has lived with her grandparents. The family is poor, and her grandparents rely on farming to support her education. Luckily, she has been able to study at a boarding school since grade 6, which has reduced her tuition fees. With the encouragement of her grandparents and relatives, Ha has never thought of dropping out of school.

Perhaps her special family circumstances also help Ha become more courageous and resilient.

Achieving a high admission score, especially a Literature score of 9.75, Ha said she did not take extra classes outside but only studied at a boarding school at high school. “I think the important thing is to have a sense of learning. I always outline the tasks and goals I need to complete and then arrange my study time scientifically. I also do not force myself to study too much but allocate time to relax and rest reasonably. I think only then can I concentrate and absorb knowledge best,” Ha shared.

Studying National Defense and Security Education, the female student anticipated that she would have to be present and practice at the training ground regularly, as well as stand in the sun, study outdoors and sweat more than other pedagogical majors. However, she was confident that she had good health and was mentally prepared.

“I don’t mind, on the contrary, I like those things. After entering the school, I found the learning environment at the school to be very good. My friends and seniors are all friendly. I think this is the absolutely right choice for me,” Ha said, adding that she is not “alone” either, as female students make up about 40 out of 62 students in the whole faculty.

Ha hopes that after graduating, she can become a teacher or lecturer teaching national defense and security at schools. In the near future, the female student aims to strive in 4 years of university to be able to graduate with a degree of Good or Excellent.
