National Economics University plans to open Applied Mathematics major

National Economics University consults mathematicians and scientists on applied mathematics training program.

At the scientific seminar with the theme: "Training in Applied Mathematics in the era of data and smart decision making" organized by the National Economics University, Prof. Dr. Ho Pham Minh Nhat, Institute of Science on Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, University of Texas - Austin shared about the pivotal role of Applied Mathematics in the field of data science and modern decision making. Prof. Ho Pham Minh Nhat said that in the era of data, Mathematics is not only a calculation tool but has become the foundation for building models, algorithms, and artificial intelligence systems. Thanks to the power of Applied Mathematics, raw data is transformed into useful information, and from there into strategic decisions, contributing to shaping the future of many fields from business, finance, healthcare to public administration.

Experts say that human resources currently lack data analysis and model building skills, so it is necessary to strengthen the connection between training institutions and businesses to ensure that students effectively meet job requirements.

Sharing about the capacity and training orientation of Applied Mathematics at the National Economics University, Dr. Le Anh Duc, Head of Training Management Department, emphasized that Mathematics is a core subject, which is especially focused on in the admission and teaching of all majors. The role of Mathematics at the school does not stop at providing the foundation for all training programs, but is also demonstrated in many specialized majors such as Data Science , Insurance Actuarial Analysis, Risk Management, etc.

Dr. Le Anh Duc affirmed that with a team of lecturers of the Faculty of Basic Sciences with good expertise and qualities, and a multi-disciplinary and multi-field training ecosystem, the School has the capacity to open an Applied Mathematics major in the near future, and is ready to develop higher levels of training.

Designed flexibly to help learners choose specialized application orientations that suit their interests and career orientation, the program not only equips them with solid mathematical foundation knowledge but also focuses on applying mathematics to solve practical problems in a variety of fields. The highlight of the program is the harmonious combination of: core mathematical knowledge (algebra, analysis, probability, statistics, optimization, modeling); modern technology skills (machine learning, big data analysis, simulation); and interdisciplinary application capacity.

This field of study will train a new generation of “applied mathematicians” – both theoretically sound and proficient in tools, ready to solve practical problems in a variety of fields ethically and responsibly in the data age.
