According to CBS News, New South Wales police received reports of a shooting in a neighborhood in Sydney's Inner West on the evening of October 5.
"About 50 to 100 shots were fired between 7:45 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on October 5 in Croydon Park, a suburb of the Inner West," New South Wales Acting Police Commissioner Stephen Parry said.

Police quickly surrounded the area and blocked off the street before storming an apartment and arresting the suspect, a 60-year-old man, and seizing two rifles at the scene.
The shooting left 20 people injured by bullets or broken glass. Many were taken to hospital.

Police added that the suspected shooter was also taken to hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during his arrest.
New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon described the shooting as “serious and frightening”. Authorities are investigating the suspect’s motive but initial findings show “no links to terrorism or any gang activity”. Acting Superintendent Parry added that the man arrested “has no history of mental illness”.
In August, gunman Dezi Freeman fled into the bush after killing two police officers. In 2022, six people, including two police officers, were killed in a shooting near the small Queensland town of Wieambilla.
