Energizing the 500kV Vinh Yen Transformer Station project and connecting lines

(Chinhphu.vn) - The National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), the Northern Power Project Management Board (NPMB) in coordination with relevant units have successfully energized the 500kV Vinh Yen transformer station project and connecting lines.

This is the project chosen by the Party Committee of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) as the project to put up a sign to welcome the 4th EVN Party Congress, term 2025-2030.

Overcoming difficulties to bring the project to the finish line

The 500kV Vinh Yen Transformer Station (TSS) project and connecting lines are special-class, group B energy projects invested by EVNNPT, NPMB is assigned to manage and operate the project, Power Construction Consulting Joint Stock Company 3 designed, and Power Transmission Company 1 took over and operated.

The 500kV Vinh Yen transformer station and connecting lines were built in Trung My commune, Binh Xuyen district, Vinh Phuc province (old), now Binh Tuyen commune, Phu Tho province.

The project has a scale of constructing a new 500/220/35kV substation including 2 900MVA transformers, each transformer is connected by a combination of 3 single-phase transformers, capacity 300MVA; constructing 500kV and 220kV feeder compartments; constructing 2 connecting lines 4.7 km long.

When completed, the 500kV Vinh Yen transformer station will be connected to the 500kV Hiep Hoa - Son La line. Hiep Hoa - Viet Tri will be the transfer point between two sources of thermal power and hydropower - from Son La and Lai Chau hydropower plants and thermal power clusters in the Quang Ninh area.

This transformer station will also be connected to the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen line after its completion, promptly releasing power from small hydropower plants in the Northwest region and importing electricity, contributing significantly to ensuring electricity in the Northern region in the following years.

The project, once completed, will be of great importance in meeting the growing load demand of the Phu Tho province power system; creating strong links between areas in the power system, increasing the ability to operate safely and stably for the national power system.

The project implementation process encountered many challenges in site clearance compensation until April 2025, the entire substation site was handed over by the locality. The prices of materials and supplies fluctuated, the contractor's mobilization of construction workers encountered many difficulties because EVN and EVNNPT simultaneously implemented many key power projects, notably the 500kV circuit 3 transmission line project... The 500kV Vinh Yen substation site had many projects implemented simultaneously, many contractors participated in the bidding packages, leading to an impact on the progress of some items.

Along with that, in mid-May 2025, the new transformer was delivered to the station, so the unit coordinated with contractors to work day and night to install and test and calibrate.

However, with the close direction of EVN leaders, EVNNPT leaders and EVNNPT's Boards, NPMB leaders are regularly present at the construction site to urge and remove obstacles to build detailed progress and construction plans for items. Along with the high determination of contractors participating in the project, the project has now completed energizing, meeting the schedule, enhancing power security for Phu Tho province and the region from the hot season this year.
