Vietnam has affirmed the role and great potential of ecotourism associated with biodiversity conservation at the First World Congress on Wildlife Tourism (Congreso Mundial de Aviturismo), which took place in Venezuela from October 10-12. The participation of the Vietnamese delegation has opened up opportunities for extensive cooperation with Venezuela and South American countries in this field.
Presenting a speech at the closing session on October 12, ornithologist Nguyen Hoai Bao, representing the Vietnamese delegation, emphasized the multi-dimensional benefits that ecotourism brings. According to Mr. Bao, founder of Wildtour, this field not only promotes socio -economic development by creating stable income for local people from accommodation, food, tour guides and selling local products, but also contributes directly to conservation work.
He affirmed that tourism funding helps protect ecosystems, biodiversity and raise community awareness. In addition, responsible tourism also helps visitors experience and learn about nature, while honoring and promoting the cultural identity of indigenous communities.
The congress, held in the Andean state of Mérida, brought together leading experts and scholars from more than 20 countries and is seen as a milestone for the global ecotourism trend. Speaking at the event, Venezuelan Tourism Minister Leticia Gómez stressed the goal of positioning Venezuela as an “ecological paradise”. With 1,426 bird species, 58 of which are endemic, Venezuela has great potential to become a hub for international nature-loving tourists.
Vietnam's participation has received high appreciation from the host country. Earlier, at a friendly reception for the delegation, Venezuelan Deputy Foreign Minister Tatiana Pugh Moreno welcomed Vietnam's presence, saying that this is the image of a dynamic country, ready to accompany the world in efforts for green and sustainable development.
In response, Vietnamese Ambassador to Venezuela Vu Trung My affirmed that Vietnam is proud to be present at the forum, where countries join hands to preserve natural heritage. With a rich ecosystem and nearly 1,000 bird species, Vietnam has identified ecotourism associated with conservation as a sustainable direction.
On that basis, Vietnam expressed its desire to expand cooperation with Venezuela and South American countries, turning tourism into a bridge of friendship and environmental responsibility. The congress opened up a great opportunity for the two regions of Southeast Asia and South America to share conservation experiences and connect travel businesses.
