Germany arrests two suspects related to Russian secret service, what does Moscow say?

On April 18, the German Federal Prosecutor's Office announced that two German citizens of Russian origin were arrested on charges of plotting to carry out sabotage attacks aimed at weakening military support for Ukraine.

Reuters quoted a statement from the prosecutor's office as saying that authorities searched the homes and workplaces of the two suspects.

According to the office, since October 2023, one of the suspects, identified as Dieter S., discussed possible plots with a person connected to the Russian secret service.

The statement noted that Dieter S. was preparing to carry out bombing attacks on military facilities, including those operated by US forces.

Der Spiegel magazine reported that the two men, aged 39 and 37, were detained in the town of Bayreuth on suspicion of spying on US bases on Russia's orders and planning attacks on military transport routes, as well as planning to target German aid to Ukraine.

Germany's Bild daily reported that the country's Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador following the arrest, but the ministry has not commented on the matter.

Meanwhile, Russian state news agency RIA reported that the Russian Embassy in Berlin has not received any notification from German law enforcement about the arrest.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also said he had no information about this arrest.
