Duc Chien analyzes coach Troussier's playing style and says surprising things about Van Toan

Midfielder Nguyen Duc Chien is one of the most interesting faces in the September training session of the Vietnamese national team. The player from Viettel Club was called up by coach Philippe Troussier after an excellent performance in V-League 2023 with 7 goals. Duc Chien also scored 2 goals in the 2023 National Cup, contributing significantly to helping Viettel Club win the runner-up position.

At the training session on the evening of September 4 with the Vietnamese team, Duc Chien shared: "Thank you to the coaching staff of the Vietnamese team for giving me the opportunity to participate in this training session. My feelings when wearing the national team shirt are honor and pride. That is a joy and great motivation for me to strive in the coming time."

Duc Chien affirmed that coach Troussier is creating a new playing style for the Vietnamese team by emphasizing ball control.

"I noticed that the two coaches (Mr. Troussier and Mr. Park Hang-seo) have different philosophies and ways of operating the team. During this training session, I had new experiences. Coach Troussier brought a different style of play, directing the Vietnamese team towards the goal of holding the ball and deploying short, small balls more than Coach Park Hang-seo.

I am currently training and being tested in the role of defensive midfielder. This is a new experience and a bit difficult, not only for me but also for the other players. This is also a big challenge for me, the coach requires me to move more than before. But it's okay, I will adapt as quickly as possible," Duc Chien affirmed.

The player born in 1998 also affirmed that Mr. Troussier is a person who loves his job, is enthusiastic and dedicated to his work.

"Coach Troussier is a serious person who loves his job. One day he can stand on the field a lot when combining training for the national team and U.23 Vietnam. Therefore, the whole team always tries to adapt, and behind the scenes, we are always happy and comfortable.

The Vietnamese team is training hard.

This is a trial period as well as my first time returning to the Vietnam national team, so my goal is to try to adapt as quickly as possible to the playing style, and to score points in the eyes of the head coach. I think about the way I play, I have to play much differently than at the club, as long as I can follow the coach's tactics. As for scoring, when I enter the match, if I have the chance, I still want to be able to score in the Vietnam national team's shirt," Duc Chien said.

Today (September 4), striker Van Toan returned to Vietnam to join the team. Duc Chien confirmed: "Van Toan has joined his teammates. He seems thinner and has less hair. In Korea, Van Toan probably didn't get to talk much, so when he returned to Vietnam, he talked a lot."

The Vietnam team is preparing for a friendly match with the Palestine team, taking place on September 11 at Thien Truong Stadium ( Nam Dinh ). Coach Troussier's team only has 1 friendly match in September to assemble and test the squad. In the past 2 training sessions, the Vietnam team was placed to practice with the U.23 Vietnam team. This is a familiar strategy that Mr. Troussier has applied in previous training sessions.
