On August 13, striker Nguyen Van Toan underwent surgery for a meniscus injury. This is the injury Van Toan suffered at the AFF Cup 2024, in the match between the Vietnamese team and Myanmar in the final round of the group stage.

The surgery lasted 1 hour and 30 minutes and went smoothly. Coach Vu Hong Viet called to encourage Van Toan. He said that the team is ready to create the best conditions for striker number 9 to be able to return to training with the team soon.

According to the club's doctors, Van Toan is expected to take about 5 to 6 months to return to competition. Currently, Van Toan is staying in the hospital for doctors to monitor him for the next few days, before returning to rest and recover from his injury. Last season, Van Toan had to rest for 4 months after the AFF Cup 2024, then returned in mid-April. He played the final stage of the season for the Thien Truong team, before deciding to have surgery to completely treat the pain.

Thus, Nam Dinh Club will be without Van Toan until the end of the first leg of V-League 2025 - 2026. The team from Thanh Nam will also not have the service of main striker Nguyen Xuan Son until the end of 2025. Currently, Xuan Son is in Brazil for rehabilitation training. Initially, the medical team diagnosed that Xuan Son could return in September, however, the recovery process of the player born in 1997 took longer than expected.

Xuan Son and Van Toan have in common that they both suffered injuries at the AFF Cup 2024. Their absence leaves a gap in the attack of the Vietnam national team and Nam Dinh Club. At the club level, coach Vu Hong Viet is bringing in a number of foreign players to fill the gap in the attack.
