Galaxy S25 will not have direct Qi2 charging standard integrated

A few days ago, a list of Galaxy S25 accessories leaked, revealing a “magnetic case” that led people to believe that the new Galaxy S flagships would feature Qi2 wireless charging. However, it’s still unclear whether the phone will support a magnetic base like the MagSage via Qi2.

The Wireless Power Consortium, which oversees the Qi standard, has confirmed that any device with the Qi2 logo has the Magnetic Power Profile (MPP). MPP is a tweaked system derived from Apple's MagSage standard.

However, Samsung can still bring faster and more efficient wireless charging on the Galaxy S25, helping users charge conveniently without depending on the Qi2 standard.

If that's true, Samsung could upgrade the wireless charging speed of its phones from 15W to 25W, which is the same as the wireless charging speed of the latest iPhones. Although the Qi2 standard with its "no magnet" feature is very convenient and Samsung has also applied it on the Galaxy Ring, the 25W charging speed is not yet supported by the Qi2 standard.

If users still want to use Qi2 accessories like wireless chargers or power banks, they may have to buy Samsung's magnetic case.

The Galaxy S25 series will include 3 products: Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus and Galaxy S25 Ultra. All 3 phones will come pre-installed with One UI 7 user interface running Android 15 operating system and receive 7 major Android operating system updates.

All three phones are expected to use the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chip, with 12GB/256GB of Ram. The higher-end variants of the Galaxy S25 Plus and Galaxy S25 Ultra can bring 16GB of Ram to users.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S25 series on January 22, 2025.
