Nearly 150 physicists come to Vietnam to discuss the universe and the history of stars.

At the ICISE Center in Quy Hoa Valley (Quy Nhon Nam Ward, Gia Lai Province), two international scientific conferences are taking place with very new topics on "cosmology" and "star formation", attracting nearly 150 physicists from 30 countries and territories.

Dr. Tran Thanh Son, Deputy Director of ICISE Center, said that the two events took place in 5 days, from August 11 to 15. In particular, the international conference "Cosmology" had the participation of nearly 50 scientists and young researchers from 16 countries, including 6 leading experts in the world from the United States, Korea, France, India, notably Professor Edward Rocky Kolb (University of Chicago, USA) - a very prestigious cosmologist in the world.

This is the 5th “Cosmology” conference held in Vietnam, the first held in 2013. On this occasion, international and domestic scientists celebrated the 60th anniversary of the discovery of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB ) by two American scientists, Arno Penzias and Robert Woodrow Wilson – a work that won the 1978 Nobel Prize in Physics, contributing to strengthening the evidence for the “ Big Bang” model in modern cosmology.

The conference has 15 scientific topics with 41 in-depth reports, focusing on contents such as: cosmic background radiation, large-scale structure of the universe, gravitational waves; dark energy, dark matter and revised gravitational theories; baryon and lepton birth process, early universe and cosmic inflation phase; black holes, numerical relativity, quantum field theory in curved space-time; neutrino cosmology...

Also at the conference, delegates discussed “The formation of stars in different environments” attracting 90 young scientists and researchers from 22 countries around the world . The event was run by many leading scientists from countries such as: Japan, Australia, Spain, Korea, USA, Germany, France…

At the conference, scientists will focus on discussing the latest advances in star formation research, taking full advantage of the improved observational capabilities of next-generation telescopes. The ultimate goal is to shed light on the physical processes taking place in environments ranging from individual stars and molecular clouds to the scale of entire galaxies.

Main topics of discussion include: molecular clouds, low mass and high mass star formation, energy balance during star formation, stellar feedback, turbulence in clouds, the role of magnetic fields...

Dr. Nguyen Huu Ha, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Gia Lai, said that the two events above contribute to enhancing the scientific and technological position of Gia Lai province and the region. Through this, it will promote the formation of multinational research groups, mobilizing global intellectual power to solve problems related to the universe and astronomy. In particular, this will be a forum for young Vietnamese and Asian physicists to access and update new knowledge, and seek future cooperation...
