Domestic coffee prices continued to increase slightly today, following the recovery of world coffee prices. Domestic supply is becoming increasingly scarce as the new harvest has not officially begun. Meanwhile, export demand remains high, causing coffee prices to continue to rise in most provinces in the Central Highlands.

Vietnam's position on the global coffee map is very important, as it is the world's largest producer and exporter of Robusta coffee. Therefore, every time Vietnam enters the main harvest season from October every year, international organizations issue many related reports and analyses.

According to a recent report from Dutch Rabobank, Brazil is gradually surpassing Vietnam to become the world's largest producer of Robusta coffee. Brazil's output this year is estimated at about 24.7 million bags, each weighing 60kg, a significant increase compared to 2020's figure of 19 million bags.

Meanwhile, the US Department of Agriculture has given a more optimistic forecast for Vietnam. They estimate that our country’s Robusta coffee output this crop year will reach about 30 million bags.

If comparing the two main types of coffee, Robusta and Arabica, Robusta has outstanding biological advantages. This coffee variety has better drought and heat resistance and is also more resistant to pests and diseases, while also giving a large yield.

Meanwhile, in another coffee-producing country, Indonesia, this crop is expected to yield a total of about 12 million bags of coffee, of which Robusta coffee output accounts for the majority with about 10.2 million bags.

In the first five months of the crop year, Indonesia successfully exported more than 2.8 million bags of Robusta coffee, 163% higher than the same period of the previous crop year.
