Life skills education and Stem education at Quang Vinh Primary School

With that meaning, Quang Vinh Primary School (Nam Sam Son Ward) always pays attention to and promotes this activity in many rich and diverse forms, suitable for each age group, student group and practical conditions of the school.

According to Nguyen Cong Dung, Principal of Quang Vinh Primary School, in order for the KNS and Stem education activities to be most effective, the school has done a good job of advising the Party Committee and the government. Promote propaganda to raise awareness of the position, role and significance of this activity to parents to accompany the school in the implementation process. Each teacher clearly identifies KNS education and Stem education as one of the active teaching methods and forms in the 2018 General Education Program.

Along with the propaganda work, the school has developed plans and organized professional training sessions right from the beginning of each school year. In particular, the KNS education plan focuses on experiential activities and practice of KNS education situations. The Stem education plan focuses on Stem experiential activities related to lessons; familiarization with scientific research...

Following the plan, each teacher has flexibly integrated practical lessons, everyday stories... into regular classes. Along with that, the school regularly organizes extracurricular activities, useful playgrounds, and cultural and social knowledge competitions. This has impacted the awareness and gradually formed skills for students such as: learning skills, including self-testing and self-assessment skills, identifying strengths and weaknesses; labor skills, self-service labor, including skills in performing self-service activities such as: getting drinking water, dressing, putting on shoes and socks for students in grades 1 and 2; bathing for students in grades 3, 4, and 5; cleaning the school...; hygiene skills, maintaining health; communication skills (saying thank you, apologizing appropriately, knowing how to greet teachers, how to address the elderly properly, etc.); teamwork skills; skills to prevent accidents and social evils, etc.

For Stem education activities, this is an educational method that integrates knowledge and skills from the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, helping students develop comprehensively, practice creative thinking, problem-solving skills and the ability to apply them in practice. This educational method is quite new in the 2018 General Education Program, so Quang Vinh Primary School is especially interested in the approach and implementation. The school's requirement is that professional groups must research, develop and select Stem topics in the school year flexibly, suitable for the age of students, with local and school conditions, and ensure that each class will implement at least 4 topics/school year. For example, the topics "Multi-function pencil case", "My mask", "Four seasons clock", "Loving family handbook", "Fire prevention handbook at home"...

Each Stem education activity is truly a festival for students. Students are excited and confident in participating in Stem education activities, proactive in activities under the guidance of teachers. Thereby, contributing to the formation and development of students' qualities and abilities; communication skills, teamwork, problem solving... of students are getting better and better.

The results of KNS and Stem education activities have significantly contributed to improving the overall quality of education of the school. At the end of the 2024-2025 school year, the rate of students completing primary school reached 100%; 98.6% of students were assessed as achieving or higher in terms of quality and capacity. Participating in competitions and exchanges at all levels such as: City-level Vietnamese Proficiency Exam, the school's students won 32 prizes, including 11 first prizes; at the provincial level, the school's students won 15 prizes. In the provincial IOE English competition, the school's students won 2 third prizes and 2 consolation prizes. In the Hkimo International Math Competition, the school's students won 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal... This is both a motivation and a foundation for teachers and students of the school to continue to strive, make efforts, and constantly improve the quality of teaching and learning as well as effectively implement KNS and Stem education for students in the following school years.
