Social networks are abuzz with the news that a teacher at Chuong Duong Primary School (District 1) announced that she would not prepare review outlines for students because their parents did not agree to buy her a laptop.

Teachers cannot prepare syllabus because parents do not support buying laptops

According to information from Chuong Duong Primary School (District 1), after receiving feedback from parents, on September 24, the school organized a meeting to discuss and resolve the problems between the homeroom teacher of class 4/3 and the parents of the students in this class.

According to the minutes of the meeting, Ms. TPH, homeroom teacher of class 4/3, Chuong Duong Primary School, admitted that she had sent a message that caused misunderstandings to the parents of this class, and also said that she was wrong in encouraging parents to equip themselves with personal laptops and that she directly kept the class fund.

At the end of the working session, the female teacher apologized to the school, parents of class 4/3 students and promised to correct her mistakes.

"I will regularly contact parents in teaching and educating students. I will take more care of students. I hope parents will give me the opportunity," excerpt from the meeting minutes.

However, at the end of the mediation session, 25/27 parents still signed a petition to change homeroom teachers or transfer classes for their children.

The incident has been reported by Chuong Duong Primary School to the leaders of the Department of Education and Training of District 1 for instructions on handling the case.

Previously, according to parents' feedback, the incident originated from the parent-teacher meeting at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year of class 4/3. Ms. H. discussed with some parents in the Parents' Representative Board (PBO) about her lost laptop and asked for parents' support to buy a new one.

According to parents' calculations, a laptop on the market today costs from 5-6 million VND, on average each parent contributes 200,000 - 300,000 VND.

Therefore, parents proposed a collection of 500,000 VND/student to support teachers in buying laptops and to pay for student activities. Parents who are able should contribute, without equalization or coercion.

After the meeting, some parents paid in cash, some parents transferred money, but all the money was managed by Ms. H.

Ms. H. sent a message to the class zalo group with the content "After the first meeting of the school year, 29 parents have paid. Currently, I have 14,500,000 VND. I gave the nanny 300,000 VND. I paid 500,000 VND to the scholarship fund. I have 13,700,000 VND. I bought a laptop, I will inform the parents of the remaining amount. And I would like to ask for this laptop too, parents".

At noon of the same day (September 14), Ms. H. took pictures of 2 laptops and quoted one for 5.5 million VND and the other for 11 million VND. She proactively offered to buy the 11 million VND one, of which the parents supported 6 million VND and she contributed 5 million VND.

On September 16, Ms. H. continued to create a vote of agreement and disagreement on the class group about parents supporting her to buy a laptop. Then she locked the vote.

The voting results showed that 26 parents agreed, 3 parents disagreed and 18 parents had no opinion.

Because many parents did not agree or had no opinion, the teacher continued to message the zalo group with the content that she would not accept the support money, she bought the laptop herself and used it, but would not prepare the outline for the students, only agreed on the review lesson and parents would review for their children at home.

On September 24, Ms. H. sent a summary of expenses such as power outlets (220,000 VND), wall clocks (160,000 VND), slogans (30,000 VND), donations to the scholarship fund (50,000 VND), and the remaining amount was handed over to the parents.

In the following days, according to students' feedback, she let her children learn through TV in most subjects, including showing math lessons and solutions on TV for them to copy instead of lecturing.

Mr. Le Cong Minh, Principal of Chuong Duong Primary School, said that the school had received feedback from parents. The school leaders admitted that Ms. H. was wrong and was reminded and disciplined about not using the operating budget of the class's Parents' Association to sponsor teachers' personal teaching equipment, and at the same time, teachers are not allowed to directly manage and use this budget.
