Despite the best efforts of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have not been able to stabilize the situation north of Pokrovsk, according to Russian military sources. According to the sources from the battlefield, the Russian units, after repelling the enemy's counterattacks, are gradually expanding their control in the Dobropillya area. According to sources at the front, units of the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) of the Central Army Group are currently attacking in the direction of Novy Donbas, Sofiyivka and Vilne. The enemy is forced to disperse its reserves, which is making it more difficult for the AFU units to defend.
Ukraine's Deep State channel reported that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrsky, reported to the Kiev government office that the situation in the Dobropillya region was threatening AFU units there. President Zelensky was warned of the risk of forming a full-scale encirclement, from which Ukrainian troops might not be able to escape. The Russian RVvoenkory channel reported that the 51st Army of the RFAF Central Group has secured the western base of the operational spearhead at Dobropolye and has begun to retake Nykanorivka. Once Nykanorivka is recaptured, the overall situation of the Russian troops will improve significantly along the entire thrust from Mirnograd to Dobropolye. In addition, according to the analysis of independent military experts, if the Russian assault units consolidate their positions in Nykanorivka, any AFU incursion will be meaningless, as they risk being surrounded in forests and ravines. Therefore, over the weekend, the Ukrainian army was unable to turn the situation in their favor, despite the large number of reserve forces deployed there. Meanwhile, updates from the frontline raised doubts about the AFU “encirclement” near Dobropolye, when the RFAF was said to have smashed the counter-offensive of the 1st Azov Corps and some AFU affiliated units; turning the tables and regaining the initiative. The military news site Anna News said that the Russian encirclement is closing in on Ukrainian troops in Dobropolye, after they took control of the Dorozhnje settlement at the tip of the thrust. The RFAF is advancing and has penetrated into the area north of Nykanorivka.
The AFU's logistical problems in the Dorozhnje settlement began long before the fall of Dorozhnoye. Even before the fall of Dorozhnoye, the only reliable supply route had been cut off by the Russians, forcing the Ukrainians to move through forests and open fields under heavy RFAF fire. The fall of Dorozhnje deprived the only settlement that could serve as a supply center for the AFU garrison in Nykanorivka. Now the Ukrainian army is unable to stop the Russian advance that is closing in on the village. In response to the worsening situation on the Pokrovsk front, President Zelensky continued to order reinforcements to the area, while withdrawing troops from other directions. It is clear that Kiev has decided to hold Pokrovsk and its positions north of the city at all costs. But the problem for the AFU defending Pokrovsk is that all the logistical supply lines to this area are currently under tight control of RFAF firepower. If Kiev continues to send reinforcements here, they will have to further strengthen the logistical support of the operation; this is not an easy task.
Meanwhile, the RFAF’s offensive pressure on the Pokrovsk region continues to increase. According to Readovka, the Russian army is breaking through the Ukrainian defense system in the center of Pokrovsk. The RFAF 2nd Guards Army has pushed the Ukrainian army into an extremely disadvantageous combat situation in Pokrovsk. Readovka said that Russian assault units succeeded in breaking through the entire enemy defense system in the residential area east of Zashchitnikov Ukrainy Street. RFAF assault forces cut through the Ukrainian defense line from north to south, along Maya No. 1 Street. At the same time, the RFAF siege of the industrial complex on the northwestern outskirts of the city continued. Meanwhile, the AFU turned this industrial complex into a strong defensive position, covering the village of Grishino; in order to ensure the supply of the Ukrainian troops stationed in the Pokrovsk-Mirnograd urban agglomeration. In the western part of the city, the Russians launched an attack from the Leontovychi bridgehead (south) towards the village of Grishino (northwest). Units of the RFAF 2nd Army, were forming a wide offensive front and flanking the enemy's defenses in the industrial zone.
All signs point to the Ukrainian garrison holding out and slowly retreating. The only chance for the Ukrainians there is to retreat across the railway lines north of the city, to reorganize their defenses; but this would mean losing much of Pokrovsk’s inner city.
