Hanoi provides lunch money of 20,000 VND/day for primary school students from this year.

(Dan Tri) - Hanoi officially supports lunch money for primary school students from the 2025-2026 school year, regardless of public or private schools.

The Hanoi People's Committee has just issued Official Dispatch No. 4537 on implementing Resolution 18 of the City People's Council on the mechanism to support boarding meals for primary school students in the area for the 2025-2026 school year.

Regarding implementation costs, the City People's Committee requested the Department of Education and Training to coordinate with relevant units to guide the process, compile the list, number of students and estimate the budget to support meals for primary school students according to regulations.

The Department of Finance presides over and coordinates with the Department of Education and Training and relevant units to guide the working process of establishing, allocating, assigning estimates and settling state budget funds to support boarding meals.

State Treasury Region I guides schools assigned with funding to support boarding meals to open accounts; pay and advance funding to support boarding meals for schools.

The People's Committees of wards and communes direct and implement Resolution No. 18 and guiding documents of relevant sectors for affiliated schools according to management decentralization and schools belonging to universities, colleges, research institutes... in the area, ensuring support for the right subjects, publicity, transparency, and compliance with legal regulations.

Resolution 18 of Hanoi stipulates the mechanism to support meals for primary school students, including both public and private schools in the city, excluding schools with foreign investment.

Accordingly, there are 2 groups of beneficiaries of this policy with different levels of support. The group of students from 23 schools in mountainous communes and the Red River delta are supported with 30,000 VND for meals/day.

The remaining group of students are supported with 20,000 VND for meals/day.

In case parents and school agree on a meal fee higher than the state subsidy, the difference will be collected from the student.
