In order to ensure the safety of students, teachers and school facilities, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training requested units to closely monitor weather developments and proactively and flexibly adjust teaching plans, ensuring absolute safety for students.
This announcement is based on the forecast bulletin at 5:00 a.m. on October 6 of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, storm No. 11 has entered mainland China and is rapidly weakening.
On the morning of October 6, the Hanoi area will not be affected by storm winds, however from noon to the night of October 6, there is a possibility of heavy rain, locally very heavy rain (50-100mm, some places over 150mm), with a risk of local flooding in low-lying areas with poor drainage.
In the latest announcement, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training also requested schools to proactively review and inspect drainage systems, schoolyards, classrooms, cafeterias, boarding areas, etc., and promptly clear and reinforce them to prevent flooding and landslides.
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training also reminded schools to strictly follow the on-duty regime, regularly update information, and promptly report on rain and flood situations and impacts on teaching and learning activities (if any) to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.
Meanwhile, on October 5, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced that all units should let students take a day off on October 6 to ensure the safety of students, teachers and staff and switch to online teaching.
Previously, on the morning of September 30, due to the influence of storm No. 10, Hanoi had very heavy rain, but because there was no announcement from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, schools still organized teaching and learning as usual.
Many parents and students encountered difficulties on their way to and after school, causing public outrage over the authorities' slow response to the storm's impact.
Immediately after that, when storm No. 11 formed and was forecast to enter the Northern region, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training issued more timely announcements closely following the weather forecast and allowing schools to proactively and flexibly adjust teaching plans depending on the situation.
